Acid doesn't give you truths; it builds machines that push the envelope of perception. Whatever revelations came to me then have dissolved like skywriting. All I really know is that those few years saddled me with a faith in the redemptive potential of the imagination which, however flat, stale and unprofitable the world seems to me now, I cannot for the life of me shake.

From Subb - brad nowell

Dear Brad, can you tell me just what's up with you?
We never met, we never will, but i fell i owe big to you
Through your music i've learned more than i thought
"Life's too short so love the one you got..."

Because you knew and you knew it's all about reggae stylee
you know, you better skank to get some money
Because you know and you know you have to fight to have some more
You know one day you're gonna lose the war

You tell me that if i would i could
"Walk up upon the sea like it was dry land" i can go with Louie
Tell me where i can find the S.T.P.
The secret tweaker pad is something so cool to me

You will, you will be missed
"Funky fresh lyrics straight out from Long Beach"
Pick it up from the ground this Jamaican sound

Well okay, that's it, enough said
Sublime's spirit will never be dead
Through your music i've learned more than i thought
Pick it up, take the mic and everything will be all right
For sure you will be missed

fuckin heroin...may have contributed to some of their talent. Ever notice drugs and good music often correlate?

they were one of the first popular bands coming around that really got me into (non-hip hop) music more. even though I stopped listening to them (almost totally), I could always put them on and enjoy the experience no matter what phase of music I was currently obsessed with. so, that says a lot about them as artists imo.

p.s. listening to early Sublime live stuff from like '91...the crowd dynamics are very interesting (to say the least) in comparison to the later shows. I wonder how long it took people before they "woke up" to Sublime. listening to those old Sublime shows is much more audially painful than watching Opiate-era Tool videos (and that's some sad shit.)

p.p.s. from sublimearchive from the 1991 Long Beach Harbor show is a prime example. maybe that's due more to location than anything else. the covers from that show are hilarious due to the crowd. it's pretty sad. these people got to see Sublime early on and had NO appreciation (other than "I Shot the Sheriff" cover with lameass crowd interaction) while others had to wait and then only have Sublime around for a few years before Brad died and they disbanded.)

all in all, it's very bittersweet but mostly fucking sweet that at least we can always have the music (no matter how little you appreciate the band). :stoned:

edit: I have a bad habit of not hitting quick reply in my posts. sorry dudez. :s

No....their.

Brad was great, but Sublime was a band...not a one man show.

I'm referring to over-indulgence in heroin, did the other band members share the same habits, but got lucky? Brad was a junky, and that sparks creativity.

Lying in my plastic bed,
thinking how things weren't so cool with me.
My baby likes to shoot pool,
I like lying naked in my bedroom, tying off that dinosaur tonight,
it used to be so cool.
Now I've got that needle, I can shake, but I can't bleed.
Take it away, but I want more and more.
One day I'm gonna loose the war.

Experiences spark creativity...no junkies or drugs.

Are you serious...Of course new experiences spark creativity; i'm not understanding how using drugs doesn't qualify as a new experience. Most great artists are influenced by drugs when writing their music/lyrics. You two have never tried opiates i'm assuming.

well brad did actually start heroin to spark creativity (supposedly he got the idea because anthonyu kiedas did heroin or something), in fact the entire robbin the hood album was recorded between injections at a crack house. i know bud also did heroin, in fact he shot up with brad the night he died. however their best album 40oz was recorded before he got heavy into the heroin. so he was talented with or without drugs.
