The morels that I have seen and ate, I don't know the specific name,
however they were picked by an experienced hunter who picks them specifically to sell.
(Picked in the SE area of British Columbia).
They were soo delicious! We had them deep-fried, and stuffed with cheese & jalapeno... mmm
Anyhow, they ones we ate only grow after a forest fire (the next season after).
Does anybody know if this is the same for all Morels?
What a gorgeous mushie!  :mushroom2:

The morels that pop up after fires are usually M. elata or M. conica or M. angusticeps. I've never found one (at least since I was a kid) in SE MN, but have heard of a few being found around here. I find a lot of M. esculenta/crassipes types and an occasional (very rarely) M. semilibera. I only look under dead elms though, waste of time looking anywhere else. First or second years after death while still having bark and most small branches attached.
My lilacs look like they have two more weeks 'til bloom. But it's been wet and warm and I'm squirmin' in my saddle. Trout season opens Saturday, so I will be peeking around.
