    #4045008 -

I managed to find a recipe for preparing substrate with peroxide didn't bookmark the web page and now i can't find it it was something like 3 teaspoons of peroxide to 3.5 cups water.

can anyone give me a link to a site that has the recipe not just promoting the peroxide manual.

why the hell would you use peroxide in your substrate? i thought that shit was used to kill bacteria, you know, putting it on open wounds and such.

so you don't have to PC? bacteria live in substrate, you know.

Abermelin, H2O2 is added to many things to keep out mold, like putting some in your spray bottle...you've never heard this before?? It will kill spores but is safe on mycelium when diluted with water.

how much peroxide you use depends on the application and the concentration as well as personal taste.

i only use peroxide for agar recipes and casing misting.

i assume your refering to casing misting. my personal preference is roughly 2:1 or 3:1 water:peroxide. Oh, yeah, if you use a humidifier then add peroxide to the tank each time you top it off. Say goodbye to the molds that like to live in there. I know this is applicable to ultrasonics. I haven't tried it on other types but it stands to reason that it would work just as well.

Oh, I occasionally use peroxide when tranferring wedges to grain jars. Just dip the wedge for a few seconds then drop it in.

edit: oh, yeah, i mentioned concentration. All my methods involve 3% OTC h2o2. if your using a higher concentration then you, obviously, have to adjust your recipe accordingly.

10% of 3% h202

3:1 as in if i were to put 4 cups liquid in my mister i would put 3 cups water + 1 cup h202? just checking, i suck at math.

that's right.

i've read of people using 10:1.

me, i consider peroxide cheap enough to use what i choose to believe is a more effective concentration. i certainly have no empirical data on the subject.

whats with this bs method of calculating concentrations?

10% of 3%..? :wtf: do you mean 0.3%?

or 10:1..?? where I live you can readily buy h2o2 at at least 3 different concentrations (3%, 6%, 30%) and with a little effort higher concentrations than that.

I really think it would benefit all parties if we try to conform to some form of standard. I suggest that the simplest would be the actual percentage of a pure solution. its not that hard to calculate, is it?

now I'm by no means an expert when it comes to to mycology, more of a happy hobbyist. but what I know about medicine one would use concentrations atleast 7% h2o2 to sterilize tools and surfaces.

however it seems this is "a bit" high, and solutions around 0,2-0,5 seems to be enough to deter unwanted growth in substrates, waters, agar, dunk/spraywater. but then again... as I said, I'm not a microbiologist, so i might be wrong then again... I'll most likely get "corrected":fire: if I am (wee, learning).

are we all referring to standard h202 you buy at the store in a brown bottle? btw, 10:1 is a far shot from 3:1. thats the difference between life and death for mycellium.

someone clairfy this, i dont want to kill my cakes.

1 cup H2O2(3%) and 9 cups Water !!!

Is this not clear?
1 Cup of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide from the store in a brown bottle.
Mix with..
9 Cups of Distilled or Spring water from a semi-clear bottle from the store.

This will give you a 10% solution of a 3% H2O2 mixture or... 0.3% solution

Can be used for Misting, mixing casings, dunking, etc. your choice.
Pretty much anything except spore syringes.

shadwstr = 10:1
debianlinux = 3:1
Joshua = 1:1

Seems we are all getting along pretty well on our respective concetrations. my original post on the topic was full of "personal choice" and "choose to believe" precisley because I've witnessed a wide variety of concentrations being used with success. basically, the more your going to be using it the lower the concentration should be. You don't want your mycelium to have to keep wasting energy decomposing peroxide that could be better spent on fruiting/colonising. if you're strictly cautiously misting casings, i'd hazard you could get by with straight 3%. for misting bare pf type cakes you definitely want to tone it down.
