Yea I'll be lookin round for some sub's in the north because that would be the only possibe active I would think, I could and will be wrong though. Mabey some gyms might grow but I'm not educated enough to try to identify them. If any one from the metroplex(perferably the western side) has found anything interesting please feel free to PM me or just post it.

I live in the area just north of dfw, Mostly i find inactive pans, some cubes thrown out here and there, and maybe a cope every once in a while.. The best time of year to go hunting, this far north is late may, temps are in the mid to high 80's with lows not breaking 70.. Severe thunderstorm season is on its way if not already started.. There's something magical around this time of year.. Anyway, I also check the local fungus report, found at your local news web site.. When the fungus report is in the 2000's its a good time to go, that is as long as the other weather conditions are met.. Look near the barn yard stables, where they keep the hay its a decent place to find pans and cubes.. But i recently have started cultivating since i have little patience, My Ecuador strain is on its way.. But if i find something ill post it here.. Keep looking all you north Texans.. Its TEXAS your bound to find something..
Happy hunting

I wish psychedelic mushrooms were legal, because I would like to indulge in this amazing fruit of the earth. Unfortunately, I can only learn about this interesting hobby, and cultivate legal mushrooms.

Lets set some things straight.

Photoguy said:[/b
You shall find Cubes, and only cubes, and you are lucky if you find that at all!

You're joking right?

Quote:
Photoguy said:[/b
You will find inactive sub's sometimes, but nothing active. Gyms...no even close to likely.

There is no such thing as an inactive subb. these inactives are probably P. foenesicii mistaken as P. subbalteatus. active Gymnopolis species do grow in Texas but i have never found them. I trust the word of notable etheomycologists on that.

Stick to the good ol' cube and hunt away!

A good tip for the newbie shroomers

So please don't just quote things in books. That is far to easy. I like to have proof. Proof is in the hunt, and the photos, and the I.D.

The mycologists who write the books arent just guessing, they know what they are talking about and deserve credibility for their work.

so let me get this strait Photoguy.. Judging from your name, your probably not contradicting yourself.. You will discount what any "pro" would say, and or find.. But some clucker off the streets of Dallas, with a picture in his hand and some grungy crack falling out of his mouth, you would believe.. Ignorance is truly bliss...

I did not mean to type inactive subs, and have corrected the issue.

Understood...

Photoguy said:
THE AVERAGE HUNTER WILL NEVER FIND ANYTHING ELSE BESIDES A CUBE IN TEXAS!

That is very true.

Photoguy said:
They are also lucky if they find that. Anyone who finds any sort of active mushroom probably has a bit of luck on there side.

that is very not true.

Photoguy said:
You do nothing but prove my point of people who are more than happy to quote books, but not back it up with hard data and facts from the hunt....
...Im not here to fight, I am here to help, but FOR GODS SAKES JUST LEAVE THE TEXT BOOK ALONE AND FIND SOME CUBE PATCHS!

Im sorry, you misunderstood my post. I understand that you only want to help, and i wasn't flaming you. No need to defend yourself so agressively.
My point was that the people that write the books know what they are talking about because they have found proof. Scientists dont put information in their documents that they can't back up.
If it bothers you that much then write some letters or make some phone calls to mycologists in Texas and they will give you accurate info. (or at the least you could send paul staments an e-mail). They can tell you with certainty wether active Gymnopilus spp. grow in Texas.

Photoguy said:
This is about people in Texas who hunt, and what the will really find.  Not Gyms, or Pans, just good ol Cubes.

I'm sorry you feel that way.  :frown:

You really shouldn't hate on people like that you know. You can't change some ones mind by putting them down. Ignorance is bliss only for those who live in peace.

I live west of austin, and we got that recent crazy rain/hail too. As it gets warmer, I'll be going on a few hunts, and will also post back if I find anything. Since it seems important, I promise to bring a camera.
