I don't understand why they wouldn't.

Their eyes work basically the same way as ours.

They just aren't necessarily interested in television. They probably don't think of what they're seeing as a dog unless they smell a dog, though. I've seen dogs go wild when a dog on TV barks, as well.

I agree. Our wolf hybrid would watch tv and cock her head all the time. When she saw other dogs, she would go nuts. When she would see a cat, she would leave. (she hated cats from a puppy nose swipe by a tom when she was young). When she saw a VW she'd get excited. She would sit there and watch the screen, chew her ass a bit, then something would catch here eye and she'd start watching again. They make cat videos and the cats watch them and swat at the screen.

My friend's dog barks at TV dogs, and runs up to the TV and scratches...but only at dogs. I say they see 'em, just some dogs are too dumb to realize what they're looking at

I'm not sure about dogs, but I know cats can watch TV. One of my cats loves Animal Planet! I put on 'The Worlds Funniest Animals' just to watch my cat. She really gets into it. Ocassionally she will even try to grab a bird that shows up on the screen.

The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. My cat jumps on my lap and chases the mouse pointer from time to time. He used to always do it when he was a kitten but now he only does it when he feels like annoying me.
