Legitimate uses for items......

I *think* this belongs in MuchCult, but anyway,.... I go to the store to buy things for my projects all the time, and never have a good reason why I need them. I usually say that i'm buying them for my mom, because she can't walk too well. Could you guys please tell me the legitimate uses for these items: 12cc syringes Calcium chloride(dries paint??) Wire Mesh(for drying) Brown Rice Flour Vermiculite Perlite I *think* that's it, but i'll post more if I remember. THANKS!

Ok well I work at Home Hardware so i dont have to worry about people asking me questions.. well perlite and vermiculite are used in gardening and growing plants. Brown rice flour is good for cooking.. cooking what? im not sure.. wire mesh you can say you're repairing a small hole in your screen door/window. i should know what calcium chloride does because we sell it at our store.. and the 12cc syringes.. im really not sure..

You don't need to answer their questions. Just show your cash, that is all they need be concerned with. If they are really nosey, tell them its stuff for your mom and you don't know what she does with it.

When buying syringes, try this. Go in with a turban on your head and assume a mid-eastern accent. Tell them something like, " I need these for my researching in the biotoxins."

Calcium chloride is street salt so there will be a lot around soon. Calcium carbonate for casings is sold as reptile sand.

Mycology is legal, you dont need to lie. Stores have no reasons to know what you are using it for anyways so if they ask you tell them something vague if anything at all. Hope that helps.

The guy at radio shack ( not that I like to inhabit stores with such low knowledge as this, the real store was closed ) liked to ask alot of questions about the types of things I was building at one point in time. I told him once that I was building a guidance system for my tomahawk missile, and a really concerned look came over his face as he asked why I was building a missile. darkfly

thanks guys, but does any one know of the spacific uses for those items? For instance, let's say i'm looking for Vermiculite. I'll say "do you have vermiculite" She'll say "what's it used for" I always say "i'm just getting it for my mother". I guess I know what to say for the calcuim chloride....."i'm drying paint" for wire mesh......"i'm repairing a screen door" but for the rest, i'd like to have better reasons to be purchasing.

If they ask you say, "I hate nosey people" put the stuff down, fill out a bad comment card, and go to another store until you get everything without being questioned.

BTW, I just called Home Depot, Lowes and Walmart and NONE of them have any calcium chloride, or even know what it is. I told them "it's to dry paint". They looked, and have none. I guess i'm shit out of luck in my town. Guess my shrooms will just degrade in potency.

you can also ask for a "dessicant" or something...i know the only stuff in my area is called "Dri-Z-Air" and then there's all those other names i've heard it called and can't remember...i'm my local hardware store it was with like furnace supplies and shit...who knows why. As far as vermiculite - you use that for gardening (mix it in with soil) so it'll be in the gardening sections of them stores!

For the brown rice, tell them your football coach said it was good to eat for nutrients and you're buying some for the team. Thats what I said when I bought 15 2lb bags.

if i go into a store to buy something and they actually ask me what for... i ALWAYS say 'it's for a science project'... it's so generic, but it shuts them up... i just blurted it out one trip to home depot, and i've been using it the last 7-9 months... works like a charm

Ok, I went into a few stores looking for calcium chloride/dessicant and I only got stupid looks from clerks. Then I asked for "Damp-Be-Gone"...Oh! You mean this stuff down in aisle 8 right next to the canning supplies :)

Ok, it is really easy to make up stories, just know the tinyest bit about what the products are typically used for and that's all you need. For brown rice you could say "It's for a vegetarian enchilata I am making for some friends for dinner tonight" It works, its off-the-wall, it'll get ethem off your back, and they will tell you where it is. For vermiculite you could say "I need somevermiculite for the plants I'm growing", or better yet "I use it as a bedding for my tarantulas, it's the best thing to use". If they ask you why you want brf, say you are making bread. If they ask why you want damp-rid, dry-z-air, etc., tell them you are painting and want the paint to dry faster, or that you use it to remove moisture from the air that can cause bacteria and fungus growth. Perlite you could say you are using to "loosen up your potting soil" or that you use it for growing hydroponic tomatoes. If they ask why you want wire mesh tell them to go to hell and call them nosey bastards and that they already askied why you wanted everything else and if they don't stop harassing you you are going to complain to their manager you fucking prick. Don't walk into somewhere that doesnt carry syringes and say "I want some 12cc syringes" this is bound to arouse suspision. Go to a veterinary shop or horse feed store. If you are familar with the store wilco, go there, they also have hey and grain and other shit. But, only use these if you are a pussy. If you are not a pussy, tell them to get their nosey asses out of your business or you're going to leave. Be sure to throw in a few choice words, this will really make their manager pissed at them.

That was both funny and true. I have bought all of that stuff (and more) over the years and the only person that ever asked me why I was buying somthing was the lady at my local health food store, when I was buying BRF. I told her a had an alergy to wheat (think it is called a gluten alergy?) and other then asking to swap bread recipes she was fine. I think people don't care why you are buying somthing as long as you are willing to pay for it. Just my thoughts...where is my peny?

Not to cut down on Wal-mart employees, but you could ask them where there four way tire irons are, and even though they are standing right next to them, they will say "I don't think we carry that item" Thats all of their answers because they don't know shit about whats in the store, so instead of saying I don't know where that is, or I don't know if we carry that let me check, they just say they don't have it. Same thing happened to me with canning jars. The damp-rid or damp-be-gone is usually over by the bleach and other household cleaners. Not by the paint as you would think. If anyone asks me why I'm buying something, I just stare at them right in the eyes, until they just forget they said anything and ring everything up. Its none of their business why you buy any item. So they can fuck off if they ask you, theres nothing they can do if you don't tell them anything.
