advantages of cold shocking

i keep hearing talk about cold shocking jars. what does this do, really? pros and cons. this is my first attempt at cultivating and i just have a lot of questions.

I would not reccomend cold shocking UNLESS you are having problems getting yer cakes to pin. The use of cold shocking is to induce pinning. My casings pin fine with out cold shocking always so i have only done it like 1 time.

Never cold shock jars....
Your intent is to cold shock a casing or cakes...but never jars.

They will get cold, and I suppose they could get contaminated as well, I would remove them ASAP.
