slowing colonization rate
    #399306 - 09/20/01 04:06 PM (23 years, 4 months ago)

when i first innoculated my jars, they were making rapid progress every day, to the point when the spots of growing mycelium were about the size of the quarter (4 spots on each jar ) over the past week or so though, they have not grown noticably. obviously, i'm a newbie at this, but is this normal?

They have used up all the avaiable oxygen and now have a lot of CO2 in the jars. Take the tape off the holes and unscrew the lidbands a little, this should help. If not, invert the jars.

The slowing growth is also normal, and to be expected. Have patience, you'll be singing happy birthday in no time. Good luck!
