Syringe resterilization

I though I read somewhere that you could microwave them on high for 5 minutes and be guarenteed sterile. I tried this and got sparks, are you suspose to do it with the needle tips off? Now my needle and needle cover smell weird, can I still use them?

didn't mom ever tell you not to put metal in the microwave? you should prolly take the needle off before nuking a syringe...that's why you flame sterilize later....for the rest of the procedure i believe you fill the syringe with water then nuke it and everything'll be happy (i don't have a nuker and haven't even gotten to makin my own syringes let alone growin anything yet) ;) not sure if the syringe you have there will be usable.

Just boil a pot of water for like 10 minutes, turn off stove. Take the syringe and suck up some water let it sit for about 30 seconds then squirt into sink. repeat this about 5 times, then the last time leave the water in the syringe, flame sterilize the needle then wipe with alcohol. Replace the needle guard. Then take the syringe and put into a ziplock bag and let it cool down.

This is a sterile enough process? Whats all this about boiling for one hour?

yeah it works fine just like that, I suppose if you really wanted to that you could suck up a syringe full of alcohol the first time.

Id suggest pulling the syringe into bits and pressure cooking for 20 minutes just to be sure...

You can also boil the needles for added sterilization. Just a thought . . .
