Resterilizing?
    #6374298 -

I just sterilized my jars boiling them (Pf-Tek) but I will not be able to get around to innoculating them within a day or two cause something just came up.

Is it OK to reboil them in my pot and sterilize them later, or will this cause cracking in the jar? (I assume its OK to resterilize, just making sure here)

its ok to sterilize them a second time.  it can throw off moisture content if you're not careful.  won't harm the jar.

but, totally unnecessary.  a day or two after having sterilized them is no biggie.  they can likely sit weeks after sterilization but prior to inoculation with no adverse effect.  they should remain perfectly sterile.  if they don't - something went wrong, and it means you would have failed anyway.

I had my first jars sit for two weeks before I knocked 'em up.
They did fine.
It prolly wouldn't hurt to do it again, but it isn't really necessary.
Wait for more opinions.
Most will tell you not to worry about it

Refrigerate if possible.. If not: Is it cold outside?

i wouldnt even refrigerate, no point

things spoil because of bacteria, mold, etc. sterilization done properly, kills them. they'll be absolutely fine at room temp.

if we're talking PRE sterilization, then yes, refrigerate until you can sterilize. but not needed here.

if anything, you're a little ahead of the game doing it this way. if no contaminates develop in the few days time before you inoculate, you know they really are truly sterile.

I suppose thats makes sense.

And I've read about quite a few people here waiting for up to a week to make sure there sterilization was successful. Not only as a good way to check ones procedures/equipment, but to also conserve spores.

I see.

So I am fine just leaving the aluminum foil on top of the jars at room temp.

I have not touched them as of yet (other than taking them out of the pot and tightening the lids, trying to limit contact)

Once I inoculate I am going to cover them with micropore tape (Nexcare gentle tape) then can I put the aluminum foil back up loosely? that shouldn't affected growth at all should it?

thanks guys  hopefully this will be my first successful grow

nope, shouldn't effect growth at all.

you only really need one or the other - micropore tape is plenty protection on its own.  loosely crumpled foil with exposed holes is protection enough as well.

if you're going to do both to ease the newbie jitters, just make sure the foil really is loose.  making it airtight is a good wait to slow and/or stall things

I wouldn't bother sterilizing them again, its just unneeded overkill like cream corn said,if they still look good when you get around to inoculation than you know that they were good and if anything goes wrong from their you know you need to work on your sterile procedure during inoculation next time
