Car Speakers... a few ?'s
    #3964177 -

alright, i've had this problem before, but never really put much thought into it... but i think i reconized a pattern, and want to confirm my suspicions.

I got a sterio and hooked the front speakers up, and they bump pretty damn good... so it has wires to the back, and i grab my old 6x9's out of the trunk of my other car, and hook em up, they sound like shit, all high pitched and whatnot... and i think "hmm, these wires are pretty nice, but maybe thier's something wrong... so i hooked them up directly to the sterio, with the wire off the back, and they still sound like shit... so i was like wtf? so i swapped the ol' 6x9's for my new 6x9's in the other car, they sounded better, but still sounded in the bad way... Now, i was just gonna leave them in the back layin around for awhile till i figured a place to mount them in the car (as it has no rear speaker spots anywhere)... so it occoured to me right now, that maybe, just maybe, that they sounded like shit because they were not enclosed in the back? like it wasnt in a box, or a trunk (like in the other car)

in my previous car, it had an open design, and it sounded pretty shitty too, so i pulled the radio out of it when we got rid of it, and put it in the other car i have (different speakers) and it totaly bumps, with both sets of speakers... but the new radio in the new car, with the same no box design, sounds like shit...

does this make any sence? do you need it to be closed off in the back for it to work properly?

Sealed boxes for speakers make them sound louder and better. Usually for rear speakers that are on the deck they just drop in and are open underneath. Mine are like that and although I haven't replaced the factories yet, they still sound pretty decent. The old front door speakers that I took out I hooked to my home stereo for shits and grins and they sounded like shit in free air. Don't know if this really answers your question.

are they blown? if it's stock wiring, that could be corroded, fried, just plain shitty causing shitty sound

i'd say replace the wiring from the HU back, hook up some decent 6x9's and actually get them mounted in something (i'd say a box would work, and box mounted to like the back sill)) and post back on the sound, should be better

what kinda speakers were you testing w/ if i might ask?

well, i have some 6x9's that came with the nova, and then i threw some new pioneer speakers i there the other day, the sound quality went up a little bit, mostly bass, but the one's that were in the nova (now back in the nova) still sound good, they looked semi-newish. I contemplated replacing the wireing, but when i tested directly to teh sterio (with about a foot of wire) they sounded just as bad.

I orderd a set of box's for the speakers, and they should be here one of these days. The sterio came seperate/with the car, dude found it in his garage and kicked, and it's got some display problems, and the radio dont work because of that (i use the tape> cd/mp3 adapter anyway)... just wanted to know if i should be looking at a new sterio to go with... ( thinking of this one http://www.crutchfield.com/S-PcMZ5uUgNsk...mp;i=130DEHP370 )

here's the speakers http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/product/detail/0,,2076_4069_35264,00.html

ah i c, well if your lookin for quality i'd def. get a new HU and wiring... i think once thats replaced you'll be fine even w/ the speakers that were in it

pioneer makes pretty good players, i'd def. recommend them or alpine for a HU

i've always liked pioneer, they've never done me wrong in the past... The wiring is kinda ghetto rigged, in the way dude ran it it runs thru the roof trim and hangs down i nthe back, and at the other end, he had some crimped on extensions (which arent needed)... i think if i were to take the extensions off, it'd be fine, the wires look like 14guage, and pretty decent

shit, ups guy just showed up and delived the box's... i'll be back in about 5 minutes...

oh, it bumps... thank god.

funny thing, i really checked out the wires he had ran, and the extensions he put on, well, they were long enough to run to the front of the car, then back again... dont know what the  fuck he needed that much slack for, but oh well...

i also got the tuner working, cause i had blown a fuse when hooking it up previously, and didnt know which of the 2 wires were the constant, so i left it disconnected... replaced the fuse the other day, but didnt get to hookin the constant up... the display works now that i hooked it back up, and i have radio again...

i just need to go somewhere now, so that i can jam goin down the road... the real test... thanks
