Car audio input wanted
    #5433253 - 03/23/06 08:15 AM (17 years, 10 months ago)

Alright.....got my head unit.A Pioneer Premier DEX-P98R....

I would enjoy having a top quality system on all fronts...

So.....

Now time for speakers/amps/sub.

For the speakers. Factory has 6-3/4" front and rear

What is best? Do I want component in front and rear? Or component just in front then 3-way in back? Seeing as i will have a sub woofer, do i want bass blockers on front and rear speakers?

I plan on going with an already powered sub... Like one of those bass tube deals.... Are these any good? Am i better off with a traditional box and seperate amp for sub?
Not looking to shake the neighborhood with bass....but still want to be able to hear nice crisp lows.

So any input would be helpfull....even if someone could point me in the direction of a site laying out the basics

you will definately want load the behind with some 6 by 9s no matter what, and those already made subs or whatever SUCK... unless your trying to get the shit on a budget and wont care in the future what it sounds like, cuz if you do your gonna wanna get better shit... you need to get a brand name like JL Audio or something for good quality...

components in the front definitely. 6x9 3 way coaxials in the back and don't forget a 4 channel amp to drive them that will greatly improve their sound quality. For subs I agree with AliceDee don't' get a premade system or base tube go with 2 12"s or 3 10"s subs driven by a D class amp.

Check out this site for deals and good info www.crutchfield.com

thanks......

yea been checking out crutchfield.....even have a 50$ off coupon for them....so definately be ordering some/most of the stuff i need from there.....

alright......since the headunit has crossover for the amp....do i need bass blockers to quench low frequency distortion from my back speakers?

components in front will have crossovers and effectively only let highs through right?

am i understanding all this correctly????

yeah components will have a built in crossover that will send the high frequencies into the tweeter and the mid ranges into the woofer. I would put the full single back to the 6x9s they can reproduce the sound good if you get a decent set.

Crutchfield has good stuff, but is overpriced for the most part. A good component set up front is key. Don't screw up your sound stage by having your speaker in the back on unless you have people back there that you wanna impress for some reason. I've never actually heard a bass tube so i can't say from personal experience what they're like, but i've never heard anyone say anything good about them. Bass blockers are kind-of a toss up. If you get the component set, they should come with crossovers. the amps will also have crossovers built in them in most cases, so I say no to bass blockers. JL is pretty overpriced too. They have great product, but you pay a lot for the brand name. Check out sounddomain and ask people around there. Beware though they get pretty catty. lol. Run the components off an amp though. i g2g2 lunch i'll try and help you out more lata. peace

amps are a must for all speakers....as the head unit has only pre-amp outs for front/rear/sub......

any other brand suggestions? amp suggestions?

the head unit doesn't have speaker wire coming out of the back for four speakers? weird. anyway, Zapco amps! lol. expensive as hell but really good. US amps, old rockford fosgate. Some of the MTX's are good as well.

no rear fill. Spend good money on front components. Amp'd of course.

Dont waste time with the tube prebuillt subs. The only ones that are even decent are infinity's basslinks and those are hardly to par.

I suggest you look into CDT, Adire, RE Audio, or DLS for components.

Don't get kicker subs. I have an L5 in a custom kicker box but it honestly doesn't sound to good. It's powerful and can take a beating but the bass quality is low.

I really like kenwood excelon decks/amps. I don't know about speakers though.
