Upon reading the Florida Mushroom Book by Kimbro
    #3964674 - 03/24/05 02:06 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

So I got the book Common Fla Mushrooms by Kimrbough and it's decent! Has a lot of the interesting Hygro's and Russula/Lactarius you never see in the mainstream books. I was dissapointed because it has left out some things such as Polypore's (some but not even Ganoderma). Also: Positive things are the info about muscaria/ and psilocybe he mentions pluteus and conocybe species as having psilocin etc. and goes over the amanita muscaria which is located in n. florida (var musicaria) and he says 2 other fla shrooms have "Pantherine" chemz-- but that is unclear because the actual evidence is not listed under the names he gives which I think are gemmata and _____ damn i dunno

but anyways pretty ok book i know there are about 2000 more species specific to florida it seems. a very interesting landscape for strange shrooms

peace out and enjoy

I had him as an instructor last semester...real nice guy. I saw him at Publix earlier this semester and he seemed to be compliant with helping me in any mushroom identification or other mycology-related information that I needed...great guy.

Have you seen Schultes ever? He has a great sensibility about him. You should watch the film Powerful Medicine about ethnobotany. Kimbrough is cool but I think the book needed a lot of things. John

Dick Schultes died several years back. But he is the greatest explorer and ethnobotanist of this last century.

Yea true and I think his personality on this video was very interesting. Almost hilarious in a very Harvard intelligent way... you would have to see it. And he demo's a blow gun as the first scene. It's great. "Powerful Medicine " from McArthur Foundation. Peace
