Cheap student food

I am going to university next year, and I am going to be living on the breadline, the student loan is nowhere near enough to pay my costs, so to save money I am collecting recipies which are very cheap. They must be very filling (so calories doesn't matter at all, if anythin, the more calories the better!) and nutritious, but most of all, cheap as cheap can be. I'm open to all suggestions...

when i was in college, i bought a huge box of rice that would last about 10 days. and i got big bags of frozen chicken. i had rice for lunch and rice and chicken for dinner. i supplemented with ramen noodles. not much on veriety, but it got the job done. some colleges will also let you file something like a hardship form and give you X amount of money on a card to be used at the commesary.

Tuna and pita bread are an awsome meal if you are sick of rice and noodles, If you have refridgeration get yourself some apples, plumb's, pear's or any other fruit that has a shelf life of over a week in the fridge.

Spaghetti and Rice are dirt cheap.
KD if you can stand that stuff.
Tuna, eggs, and cheap deli meats (ham, salami) for protein.
Bread.
Potatoes.

Water.

there are these totinos pizzas they sell at walmart. One is good enough for a meal and they cost like 90 cents. Many stores have off brands that are cheap as well.
Also tuna with mac and cheese or tuna with boiled eggs and mayo for tuna salad to eat with bread. Hot dogs are good.
Always keep an eye out for specials.

veggies are often cheap. in addition to the above, try and find a butcher or a hunter and get cheap meats. 1 deer will last a good while.

potatoes, lettuce, carrots, rice, noodles, certain flavourings, apples, "bush" meat, turnips etc are all very cheap here. may want to check out some local farms that sell to the public. best way to get *good* cheap food out this way.

if your living in the dorms the meal plan is a steal

the quantity (unlimited) far exceeds what it lacks in quality ( makes you shit 3-4 times a day )

one way of doing it...i try for a happy medium. get your quality then fill up on rice.

when i get broke i usually start looking around campus pinup boards and they always have these group meetings or whatever (various religious groups, ethnic groups, tons of shit) and they give away free food. they have damn good food there or pizza usually. here the krishnas (sp?) setup this foodline on campus and give you a ton of food for $2, if you don't have money they don't care, but it's nice to give them the $2 cuz they hook it up.

better than raman is the Noodle Cup microwave water and add to cup let sit for 3 minutes and chow down. Plus they taste better than regular raman in my opinion with the little freeze dried veggies and meats in them. Unfortunately I've eaten so many of them that they now make me sick but they were still damn good.

Ah, the free food hunt! It's great when there are 3 college campus' around, I'll never forget fresh omelets from a neighboring campus!
