The Ramen Noodle Lover's Thread

This thread is dedicated to one of my all time favorite foods, packaged ramen noodles. They are extremely cheap, easy to prepare, delicious, and when im stoned at 2 AM, they are the yin to my yang. They hold infinite possibilities for different preparation methods, anything from soup, to salad, to chip like snack foods can be made. Im sure many others in this community share my love for this simple food product, so i decided to start a thread.
The way this works is each poster should include a recipe for preparing ramen noodles, ingredients you like to add, or just your favorite brands/flavors and hopefully there will be enough recipes/info to compile into a section of the cookbook. I'll start out with two favorites of mine.
Super Ramen- this varation of the simple soup adds a gourmet touch to the traditional prep method. Ingredients: 2 Ramen Noodle Soup Packets (any flavor and brand will do) 4 Cups of water 1 tbsp miso 1 tbsp yeast (optional) 2 eggs 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese 1 small onion sliced 1/2 lime, juiced (optional) Any other ingredients you desire (some of my favorites include cilantro, hot sauce, squash, saurkraut, and various condiments/vegetables)
Bring water to a rolling boil, and add the noodles, eggs, onions and miso. Stir to break up the egg. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, until the noodles are slightly undercooked, but tender enough to chew. Turn the heat to low, and add the flavor packets, cheese, and any other ingredients you desire. Serve immediately, with hot sauce on the side. Enjoy!
Ramen Chips- This simple recipe is for when your craving that delicious ramen flavor but dont have the time to prepare the soup. You just crush the noodles up in their packaging (just bang on them with your fist until it feels like the noodles are well broken up). Then open up only the end of the package, take out the flavor packet, and sprinkle it into the bag. Close the bag, and shake to evenly distribute flavoring. Serve like a bag of chips

I was once a BIG fan of Cheddar Cheese Ramen (actually, I believe they are the knock off, Marchuan brand) with a pinch of pepper a squirt of lime juice and tobasco sauce/crushed red pepper. Perhaps using milk instead of water would make this stuff even better.
I recently stopped eating Ramen completely for a couple of years. I was a pennyless college student when it all began (weren't we all?), but once I discovered how fucking cheap those noodles were, I was in heaven. Then I left college and tried them again after a few months of recouperation, and I couldn't stand them. Recently, however, a bought a new kind call "chili chicken," I believe. It wan't bad. Now that I'm a semi-pennyless college student again, I may occasionally feast upon some noodles.
They are SOOOOOOO unhealty though. And I'm somewhat of a health-concious person now.
Peace.

I like the ramen in the bag, not that fucking styrofoam cup, i like simple ramen soup, my favorite way of preperation, is add less water than it says to, (i think 2 cups a bag) so use 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 so that its super strong flavor, kinda salty but great, and just goto town with a pepper shaker, and boom, happy camper dibbles with a nice bowl of ramen, sometimes double the dose, 2 bags, thats like a whole meal, spoon the soup slowly into your mouth, and than when its gone eat the noodles, ahh the art and process of ramen, gonna go make some now...

Yea, lately ive been getting premium brands such as Sapporo, which is made with much better ingredients. (health food stores sell several decent brands as well). You can make an extremely healthy soup my just adding things like yeast, broccoli, vegetables, and of course mushrooms.

I like to add shrimp to chicken flavored ramen. I grew up in hawaii, where half the population subsists on raw ramen (just crush it up in the bag, open, pour in flavor packet, shake) and spam (usually wrapped in nori with egg and rice). damn you military, before you stinkers came we ate fish and taro and all kinds of really good food... this is "progress".

I am a big fan of ramen and am blown away by how long it will keep you on your feet. the price is great too. i always add a half teaspoon of "sriracha" sauce [a.k.a. rooster sauce]. it's good on almost anything, and ramen is good almost any time.

Rooster sauce is AMAZING! It's made for asian food, I suppose, but it really is great on anything from steak to mac and cheese.
My older brother informed me that Ramen was actually deep fried noodles that were freeze dried. So therefore, when you heat them up with some warm water they become rejuvinated, so to speak. Like space food... kind of. If they contained no fat/sat fat, they would be healthy for you. But since there are so many fat grams (and sodium, for fucks sake!), in combination with those carbs, they are probably one of the most unhealthy things that you can eat, next to a Whopper of course.
I'm not really interested in diets as of the moment though, but thank you nonetheless. The only thing I really watch out for on a regular basis is fat, Sat fat, and hydrogenated oils. Those things will kill you ya know?
Peace.

Well...if what you mean by rooster sauce is cock sauce, then we're on the same page. Cock sauce owns. But you guys gotta check out Nongshim Shin Ramen, its Korean, and its sooo bomb. Spicy as fuck, but super delicious, cook the noodles so that theyre kinda chewy, not all soft. I love it and tried to spread the love but was accussed of giving people the shits. Well yes, Look for it. heres a link for the first place I found on google... http://www.ikoreaplaza.com/ikp/index.asp?page=product.asp&dept_id=7010&sku=KPSM01RR005 gotta learn how to add pics to this thing.

ahh ramen
i like to spruce my ramen up a bit with the following:
if you have any leftover roast chicken or beef, strip them into tiny bits chicken or beef flavoured ramen noodles bok choy or any other type of cabbage shredded carrots diced salt pepper
boil some water in a pot. add cabbage and carrots and cook till they're tender. add some salt and pepper...very small amount. now throw in your noodles with the flavour packet. once the noodles are finished throw in some beef and chicken to it. voila!

When I make ramen I generally ignore the broth. I drop the brick in boiling water, and when it's gotten cooked enough to break apart, but still a bit al dente, I dump out most of the water and add some of the flavoring packet.

Ramen Mc Donalds: 1 ramen noodle. 1 egg. 2 table spoons of cheese.
Take your frying pan and set it on a medium. Take your ramen noodle out of the package, find the seem and break it in half (it's folded over itself, the weak spot if on on of the sides) Scramble one egg in a glass. Put one half of the raman noodle on a plate and pour the scrambled egg into the square of uncooked noodles. Then flip this into the pan. At this time time take your cheese and spread it evenly along the surface of the second half the ramen. Nuke this for 30 seconds. Take the melty cheese half out of the microwave, take the cooked egg half out of the frying pan, put them both on a clean plate and stick them both together; cheese side down... and stick it on the top of the egg half. Eat like it was a breakfast sandwhich. (Well, it is)
This is an original recipe, I'm ashamed to say.

Jailhouse football food: Take 5 or 6 noodles and smash them all up still in the bags. Then cook them in a large pot but don't add the flavor packs yet. Strain out all the water. Then add about a half cup of mayonaise, a can or two of drained tunafish, chopped onion, and the flavor packs. Stir well and eat on saltine crackers. Some variations are adding cheese, old bay seasoning, hot sauce, chopped chicken in a can instead of tuna etc. etc.

This was a "recipe" I used today. It was Fing phenominal.
Ingredients:
Mauchen Creamy Chicken ramen
Parsley flakes (dried)
Water (to cook the ramen in only.)
milk (to replace the water after cooking)
Provalone Cheese (3 deli slices)
"Poppino" baby portabellas (green giant commercial kind.)
Preperation:
I microwaved the ramen with enough water to cover the ramen. I nuked it on high for about 3 minutes (give or take) until the noodles were hydrated and ready to go. I strained off the water and put the cheese in with the noodles with what water hung on to the noodles. I then nuked it again for about 10 seconds and stirred it over and over. Then I added about a half of a cup of 1% milk (which is about 2% just not quite due to regulation) and a dash of canned milk. {you could get away with 2% if you want to}. I nuked it again till the milk was hot enough to fully incorporate the cheese. Then I threw in some parsley flakes and I pre-chopped some of the baby ports and tossed them in and "folded" them in and let it set for just a few seconds to warm up the mushies. They started to take on a darker color and loosen up their water content to really bring the flavor out.
Then I garnished with a little more parsley and it was GRRRRRRRR8! (R.I.P. Thurl Ravenscroft).
It has that night light flavor going throughout it. Almost hints towards Italian alfredos. Very delicious.
Provalone has a great flavor that mixes well with shrooms. It also melts fairly well. You could go with other cheeses that you have laying around, just remember that some aren't that good in the melting department. Some cheeses are stringy by nature so watch out and enjoy.

Psssha, bump all the ol' threads you want (so long as you have something relevant to contribute!). I'd rather see people searching for old topics and adding to them, than making new threads and thereby reducing the efficient organization of information!
So far as ramen and me is concerned, I'll be stickin' to the tried and true Nong Shim Shin Ramyun (my favorite as is ramen).

But by far, the best ramen I've ever experienced, definitely comes from Daikokuya at:

2 cup-o-noodles 1 small bag of flaming Cheeto's jalapeno squeeze cheeze
directions
slightly open bag of cheetos so you can smash them into a powder, now mix in your noodles (ramen would work) and get your faucet really hot and fill the bag up... let it sit for a couple minutes and add cheese... i used to do this in prison, we called them tamales (i have no idea why) but they are really good...

Ha ha ha. That is awesome. At first I was like. WTF. Then I thought about it and was like. Damn that might be good. You get a nice blend of cheezy with spicy. Did it matter what kind of cup-a-noodles you used? Prison ehh. No questions asked but I am glad you are outside now at least.

Shitake
Daikakuya is pretty damn bomb when it comes to the ramen experience. It's a unique place to eat, because it specializes in gourmet versions of ramen.

I was growing shitakes back in sept. I went on vacation and when we got back we had a house fire and the gods took them back. So now I am growing oysters in hopes to get some fungal delight. Then I think I will get some more shitakes.

i want to grow some oysters and shiitake mushrooms. That would be awsome. What did you grow them on? and does the flavor change depending on what it grows on?

This is the only way ill eat roman noodles, 2 cups in pan on stove on high, bring to boil, add noodles and cook uncovered for 3 min, then strain the noodles, put 1-2 tablespoons butter in the pan and melt and add the flavor packet to this, stir well, add the noodles back to the pan (with heat on medium) and stir well, then add 1 can of nelly chili and a tablespoon of red pepper flakes (i like a lot of red pepper flakes) then eat and enjoy. Can add cheese if you would like.

As LiquidSmoke noted, the Shin Ramyun comes with dried Shittake chunks (and of course the serving suggestion as depicted on the package cover to add more whole mushrooms where desired). The Daikokuya ramen does not actually include mushrooms.

Daikoku Raumen is noodles, boiled egg, seasoned bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, and green onions in pork soup
Soup - Our original soup is made from soy sauce and boiling pork bones for nearly a full day.
Pork - We only use kurobuta or black pork, known for its tenderness and unique flavor.
Egg - Our eggs are soaked in a special sauce all through the night before serving.
Friday, May 13, 2005 Got Me A Part Time Lover: Daikokuya
Posted by: Daily Gluttony - Don't eat to live. Live to eat.
Last night, I went to rekindle an old flame. I've been acting kind of stand- offish with my longtime favorite ramen restaurant, Daikokuya, lately. It's been too busy for me. It hasn't made time to fit me into its hectic schedule. So that's why I have been having a bit of a ramen affair: last week, I sought out some new love at Kyushu Ramen, and boy did it rock my ramen world. But then I asked myself, "Is it me?" Is it my own impatience that causes me to turn the other way and deny myself some of Daikokuya's ramen pleasures? What if I'm not being understanding enough? Well as you know, all good lovers keep you coming back for more, so last night I went running back to Daikokuya, but this time on my terms.
That's right, no more of that 8pm on a Friday night or 1pm on a Saturday stuff. I'm sick of dealing with the cattiness of other diners fawning over a table. Yup, from now on I'm going at 6pm on a regular weekday when people are just getting off of work and not thinking about dinner yet. That way, I get it all to myself. (Well, practically)
Hey whatdya know, it worked. We were reunited at about 6:15 last night when I walked through the door and was immediately embraced by available seats. Its limited seating, 6 booths and about 20 or so seats at the counter, is almost always filled up, and its waiting list is always about 5 groups of people deep. Not tonight. I got a booth right away. Hmm, what a nice change.
Greeting me with open arms: empty seats!
A little obligatory small talk at the beginning, a few glances at the menu to see if I'd want anything else (a donburi rice bowl, some gyoza, maybe?), but I was only there for one thing. All this time I'd been yearning inside for a bowl of Daikoku Ramen and for good reason. Hot, steamy, its tonkotsu broth, made by boiling pork bones for almost a full day, is seductive. Its deep, rich flavor and velvety texture pull you in and don't let you go until you slurp up every last bit of chewy ramen noodle, crisp bamboo shoot and bean sprout, and briny soy-sauce boiled egg. And you know I like a little meat on my men, so of course there's the pork--three hunks of melt-in- your-mouth kurobuta pork sporting a thin layer of luscious fat floating on top of my liquid love. When I was finally done with the big black ceramic bowl, it was utter ramen euphoria. Total satisfaction.
 Ramen Euphoria
Oh, and whenever I'm down for a little more action, Daikokuya will do it harder. All you have to do is ask--they'll make your broth extra rich by adding an additional ladle of pork fat to your bowl.
This is going to work out, this going to Daikokuya on my terms. I have lots of faith in this relationship. But I don't think I'm gonna call it quits with my boyfriend in the Valley, Kyushu Ramen either. That one shows me a really good time too. Yeah, that's it. I'll just be a ramen player--got me one in the Valley and one Downtown.
As a woman (actually as a diner in this case), you gotta know what you want and know how to get it. No waiting games, no playing second. Yup, call your own shots and set your limits. Trust me, in the end, it'll all be worth it.

when i was in jail, we made ramen noodle chip dip. we took as much ramen noodles as people would pitch in (pulverized), then squirt in a bottle of cheese whiz, chopped up slim jims and all kinds of other miscellaneous foods from commissary. then we would use that as chip dip for some generic nacho cheese chips and sit around playing spades eatin that shit.
its allot better than it sounds, with the melted cheese goodness, bullion, and all.
