fremont peak
    #3923841 - 03/15/05 11:45 PM (19 years, 1 month ago)

annie and i went backpacking near Flagstaff. we went from the very bottom of the pic to the top of the 2nd peak from the left.from 7000 ft to  10600ft elevation the 1st day to the saddle between the Fremont peak (2nd peak on the left) and Doyle peak ( 3rd from the left).

it was the hardest day of packing i have ever done, 9.5 miles and 3600ft elevation gain. we crossed several avalanche paths and walked on steep side hills for miles (very hard on your ankles etc), cus in the upper elevations the the trail was basically non existent due to feet upon feet of snow.

the next day we summited Fremont peak elevation 11969 ft.

a view of fremont from the saddle

Annie about to summit. it was $#$^%# windy. countless times we Had to get on our hands and knees to avoid being blown off the side, no shit. a fall would have meant falling 100-1000's of ft down ice and rock cliffs and slide areas. what a rush

this is a pic of me on the summit. that's annie reflection taking the pic. we had to lie down to avoid being blown off and gettin blasted by the ice crystals and chucks the wind was carrying with it

well all that wind was bringin in a big storm (24 hours early i might add). it was cool because our camp was at the same elevation as the bottom of the clouds. it was snowing, blowing and lightning...awesome light show. there was a tiny small area behind some trees and a small rise in the saddle that allowed us to set up a tent in a fairly calm area. so the storm would rip thru 100 ft to the side and 10 ft above our heads, loud but calm. surreal.

leaving about 8 inches of fresh powder in the morning.

i was kinda nervous listening to it snow all night knowing we had to descend the next day over potential slide areas. but it all went well and it was beautiful

so it was a long beautiful hike out, we are both kinda sore...in a good way. thought id share. peace

o and i wanted to add that im am so proud of annie. once on the 2nd day she got really scared when at a crucial point her feet were slipping a little and the cornice was really thin at that point. but she overcame it and kept on plugging away and made it. so yeah annie has big hairy balls

she rocks and its her bday in 4 days.

LOL, yeah getting blown down the side of a mountain, avoiding avalanches as you pass them and then get snowed in all night sounds like one hell of a trip!

Glad you were able to make such a quest of a hike!

something like a freak on a leash.... but the grip was to tight, and the glass popped.

she cryed, i told her to shut the fuck up.

the torch started, eyes lit up, then turned black

You two are crazy and I love you guys.

I wanted to share my favorite view during our hike.  I saw this view most of the trip... 18 miles of it, and loved looking at him every mile.

I was thinking of posting this when I took it, so I could share with everyone.  oDin takes incredible care of me on the trail, so I want to give a big HOORAH  for him.

This is a fun one on the way out.  That POW was 8 inches for all 9+ miles on the way out... ooooo I wanted my skis!

This one is just damned beautiful.

oDin got sneaky and bought me this awesome camera and added lenses etc.. (my dream camera).  That is what we used this whole trip and it was as much fun as doing the ascent.  I want to officially thank 40 for his GREAT advice and consult for my 38th b day gift!

Cheers to oDin for being the love of my life, a great gift giver and the asshole for pushing me to (go to the gym and get off the couch) do stuff like this, or else I would be missing out.  There were several times I was thinking.."I am glad I keep going to the gym or else I wouldn't be able to do take each step right now!"

With 20+ miles in 3 days that gives you alot of time to think, and what metaphors came into my head.  Like life is like this trip... each step is hard but doable, and each step adds up to many steps which ends up being ON TOP of your goal!  WOW.. this was a life changing trip for me, and it is still sinking in my head.

Oh man.....
And to think I could've been there!  Extreme jealousy is running through me right now!  It looks like you guys had an awesome trip.  I definately missed out.  Unfortunately, I worked in excess of 60 hours last week instead. :frown:

I did get your phone message though.  Glad you were thinking of me at least!  We'll have to try to get some trips in later in the year.

Oh, and nice pics also!  Can't wait to see the new camera.

Ah...those pics look sweet Odin.  I haven't gone winter camping this year for some reason...(Probably just laziness)

TTS, We'll be bringing a shitstorm to Vegas on the 15-18.  Me, Scratcher, and a few other people that Odin & Annie met...good  people that are going to be looking you up if you're in town.

15-18 of what month?
The wedding/gathering in AZ is that weekend (15-18) of April. I'll be down there then. Any other month and you can probably catch me. Otherwise, I just ask that you take care of my town while I'm gone.

That'll sure be a bummer if I miss you guys.
