Ps. cubensis found in a horse field!(pics)
    #387448 - 09/06/01 09:57 PM (23 years, 7 months ago)

I paid a visit to the Pan. subb field the otherday(a horse pasture just down the street off some railroad tracks) and as soon as I entered the field, I saw a mushroom and thought to myself "hmm..whats that", then I bent over and picked and realized I was holding a freaking cubensis! I didn't recognize it at first glance because it was very wet out and actually raining when I picked it, the cap was a translucent brown color, with almost a hygrophanou fade type thing going on. Sure enough there was another one right beside it, and two more a few steps away, but that was it. I searched that field over in excitement, but turned up nothing but a few Pan subbs, there wasn't another cube in that entire field, just the 4 that I found. Two of them were abesolutly beautiful, and the other two looked like typical cubes, and a little more mature than the others. I know the books say they are occasionally found in horse manure, but I always felt that it was close to a non exsistant occurance, more than rare. I guess I was wrong :)

Heres a few pics.....

yeah i told you cubes should be growing in that field!

Nice find!

You should consider sending dried samples and spore prints of them to Z Doctor Guzman :)

Get those cubies and subbs on record for Georgia!

I am tempted to do the same for the subbs and the castaneifoilus' for the state of Florida

Anyhow, cube season is actually just begining. =)
Good quality mushrooms to be found in coming months!

I myself have been seeking other places than pasturelands for mushrooms... :)

keep shroomin,
gg

I know you told me GG, and when you did I kind of gave you a crazy look like "cubes in a horse pasture?. Sure enough, the GGreatOne was right! I couldn't belive it. I am going to send in some dried cubies and subbs this year, we need to get them on the list.

Well, for just 4 cubies, they were fairly potent little guys :) Spent last night laying in my yard in a lawn chair enjoying the beautiful cool nights we've been getting here, and listening to a little Allman Bros. It was beautiful :) Mild, but nice!
