I'm looking for some artists who play a mean trumpet. I know nothing of this genre and after listening to Phish with the giant country horns, I have a craving for some funky trumpet/sax stuff.
Im sure there are plenty here who are into this kinda music and I need some Artists
Thanks in advance

Dizzy Gillespie - anything you can get but especially the 1954 "Dizzy Gillespie with Roy Eldridge" album showcasing two of the original jazz masters of the instrument feeding off each other very well. also, 1957's live "At Newport" album has Dizzy with a full band and is some great live material.
Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis don't really need to be mentioned, as they're essential.
Wynton Marsalis is probably the best, certainly most proficient, current jazz trumpeter. good stuff.
Maynard Ferguson's early stuff with Stan Kenton's Orchestra is pretty amazing, especially the 1952 album "New Concepts of Artistry in Rhythm".
Arturo Sandoval is also an amazing current player. get his 1988 album "Straight Ahead" for some incredible technique, range, and some blazing solos.
there's a ton of great trumpet music out there, not only in the jazz realm, but here are some recommendations on what I enjoy and find to be the best playing.

well, some obvious mentions are Parliament/Funkadelic who use trumpet fairly well on some albums. I can't recall much old school funk that used the trumpet at the moment. mostly other brass instruments.
check out Charles Earland's stuff on Prestige for some good jazz-funk. his "Black Talk!" album has some pretty funky trumpet playing.
you might wanna check out Lee Morgan's stuff on Blue Note for some really soulful hard bop with amazing trumpet playing. "The Sidewinder" album is a good representation.
I'm sure someone will mention moe. for new artists that are influenced by some of the funkier sounds of the trumpet. you might check out some of their stuff. I'm not really familiar with them to be honest.
I'm sick right now and have a headache..I'll try to think of more stuff later along the lines of what you mentioned in the original post.
