Can I rebel against contam.?

Hey Shroomery,

I'm running my first grow and so far everything is beautiful using PF Tek. I've got 10 half-pint jars, most 1/2 colonized after only 1 week.

This morning I found 1 with a tiny corner of dark green to black crap. It's wedged in between the mycelium and the top layer of verm. I was wondering if I could cut it out when the cak is colonized (like 2-4 days from now) and fruit it anyways?

There has got to be a goddamn way. Has anyone done this? If no, I won't. I don't wanna lose it, but better than bad shrooms. And I still have 9 uncontam'd (so far)!

chuck the jar. 1 jar is no biggie. By the time it's done colonizing the mold contam evil crap will be much bigger and eviler and shooting little mold spores in the air everywhere. ugly.
get it out now.

NO do not cut it out, just toss that cake, black mold is the most dangerous mold there is. you only need to see one cake produce shrooms in order to make a spore print and innoc as many jars as you want, just toss it, it isn't worth it

Actually if you are sure its greenmold (strats white looks like myc then) you can test it.
Dont let the horror stories scare you like they scare the narrators.. :grin:

BUT a half incubated cake will be HARD to save.

I have 3 square feet bulk tub outside now. It has a green mold infection. I will cut that out one of these days and try top fruit it again.
It had one flush before.

At the same time a test if this strain survives temps below freezingpoint.. (there is snow here)

Ofcourse there are more dangerous molds, dont eat them :grin:.... Dont snore spores of it either. Green mold is harmless, but not to your growings... :wink:

But Im afraid that cake is doomed!

Ok... but do I throw out the whole jar? Or just the cake inside? I took it out of the tank immediately, but kept it in another room for the day until now when I got my question answered. Can the mold go from jar to jar? Or just once they are birthed?

if you want to save the jar, then open it under a water/bleach solution to prevent spores from becoming airbourne

Mold spores are everywhere so

if your other jars have good lid and verm layer you are save. If not, they would have contammed already! Contams are everywhere except in sterile jars! :laugh:

when I did cakes and had contams i threw the whole jar out. but I have 20 jars for 2$.

You CAN experiment, in another room where you never will work @ ur mushrooms.

Take the cake out, cut the contam out, spray with h2o2 solution and pray. But by tearing the cake out the moldspores (is it sporulating?) will already spread.

I think that cake is doomed.

I figure better safe than sorry. I'll experiment when I've had a round of shrooms succesfully grown and eaten safely. I am going to the outside trash now to give this jar it's last-rites...

Does anyone have anything to say? It was a good cake... so young... so innocent... *sniffles*

Damnit and it was one of my most colonized cakes!

Yeah it sucks tossing that!

Thats why I saved 50% of that strawbed... :wink:

But atm its the best thing to do for you, as far as I can judge!

Take jar outside , wear a mask , put jar in shopping bag, open jar , dump contents in bag , take jar to hose bib and give a rinse , then put jar into sink full of hot bleach water(2% solution) , let soak 20 mins , use green weenie to scrub it out,rinse real good, dry with paper towel , and BANG jar ready for more fun.
