Back to MUSIC
    #3835156 - 02/26/05 12:35 AM (11 years, 9 months ago)

After a year and a half away from the guitar, I will shortly be venturing back into the musical realm. The reason I left was because I basically had no more inspiration, I completely stopped hearing riffs in my head, and I felt overstressed, to say the least. Lately, I have been hearing alot of music in my head, and feel its time to re-open the creative outlet in my brain.

Now, I'll most likely go back to similar styles that I played in the 2 bands I was once in: aka- Death/Black/Grind/Melodic metal. Mainly, I used a Jackson Dave Mustaine V, Yamaha with coil taps and an Ibanez RG560 for gigs/practice/recording. Since, those have long since been sold:

I would like to know what you guys think are some of the better guitars for use in the "extreme" metal genre?

Right now, I have found a decent Kramer ST404S and a few Jackson Dinkys online.

ALSO, I owned and used a solid state Randall half stack for a majority of my musical adventures. Even though it pushed hard and supplied enough crunch, this time around, I want to buy a tube amp.

What do you view as a decent tube stack for the metal realm?

I'm currently looking into Peavey 5150's and Crate Voodoo heads.

Any feedback is welcome, Thanks.

Don't know if you're interested, but I gotta throw it out there...

I've got a Mesa Boogie Trem-O-Verb Dual Rectifier 2x12 that I want to sell...

they're out of production, and are said to be one of the best quality sounding tube amps in existance.

I'm not gonna try to "sell it" to you or anything, but look the shit up, it's reputation speaks for itself.

If you're interested, feel free to drop me a PM.

Hey, I have a used RG 570 I'm looking to get rid of. It's a blue sunburst, Floyd Rose tremelo with locking nuts. It's been in a case for about 5 years, I too lost interest. There is short in the pickup selector and some wear on the volume and tone knob. I can take pics if you are interested...

And I love the sound of Peavey distortion, it's my favorite, but for a half stack I might go with a Sovtek, those are cool.

I agree that Mesa Boogie kicks ass, it just sucks that I dont want to spend $1200+ for a head. The price is worth it, but, I cant see paying over a grand for a half stack. I think I'll drop the hope for a voodoo head, unless I come across a used one for "cheap" (yeah, like that will happen  )

Has anyone experienced problems with tube amps? Is it true that if you simply place it in the trunk of a car, and drive over a few potholes on the way to a gig, the tubes can get really fucked up? Are there any good ways to prevent that from happening (other than avoiding potholes)?

my guitarist keeps his amp in the trunk of the car just with blankets on the bottom and puts bubble wrap in between the tubes..No problems yet and we go off roading with it in the back

Oh! I also found another tube head in the local craigslist.org ads: its a two year old Peavey Triple XXX with matching 4x12 cab. It comes with a footswitch and amp cover; he's asking $1100 and I offered a grand in cash. We'll see what happens...Anyone have any experience with this amp?
