good call. the hives are swedish, i believe and the white stripes hail from the motor city. they did record their last album in england and i think they like the scene there a lot, but to tell the truth, they are currently making more important music than the majority of english bands right now (radiohead rules, but it's getting thin after that).

the stone roses have produced quality as well as the ozric tentacles. the tentacles may be a little too far out for many of even the heaviest counter-culturilists. they do send you to another place though.
