Actually, it's a little of both.

I think the federal governmnet should set a minimum requirement that needs tobe meet for funding. Then I think the state should set a mimimum requirement needed to meet. Then I think the community(adults) of the children attending the school should have their say.

As long as the federal mimimum education requirements and state minimums are met, I don't see what the problem is for parents wanting to have there kids get taught religious school during school hours. As long as it is not mandatory(abusing the parents who don't want their kids getting religion at school). Those children should have this time to either work on their school work or maybe take an alternative class on some humanities subject.

children get abused by other children for many things, religious belief or lack of it or alternative beliefs are always mocked, that is nothing new, and is not grounds for not allowing those interested in participating in religious study during school.

It becomes a problem when the governmnet is deciding WHAT RELIGIOUS PRACTICE YOU can study during school, or when individuals decide this. As long as descrimination is not a factor, then it should be ok.

If you live in the bible belt, you get Jesus talk at school, regardless of who is giving the lesson. It is a pregame prayer from your coach, or a class on religion. I' was born and reaised jewish and it NEVER once made me mad to hear about jesus anywhere. AS long as they werent saying BAD things about me and my beliefs, why in the world would I have a problem with theirs.

Now if the FEDS say that I have to go to religious school during school hours we will have a problem. If the State says I have to we will have a problem. If the majority of parents say they want to have bible study, and they offer an aternative for those who dont', WHAt IS THe PROBLEM.

The govenment getting involved is the problem, both ways. For or Against. The governmnet provides money to educate kids, they set standards for that money to be recieved. READING, WRITING, MATHMATICS, SCIENCE, etc.. Beyond that they should care less if the mimnimums are being met. Now if the minimums are not being acheived, then they should get involved and find a reason why the kids are not graduating with the minimum standards. If it is becasue Johnny and Jane are getting too much religion and not enough of the required material can be fit in around their bible studies, then we have a problem.

The governmnet getting involved either way, prohibiting or supporting is what is unconstitutional. They should have no opinion on the matter. It should be up to the parents of the children in the school in coordination with the teachers and administrators of the school.

The federal money that goes into schools should be based on a per student amount. As long as federal education minimums are met, there should be no problem.

As long as alternatives are offered for the students who don't go to church are provided there is no problem.

If I belonged in that school district, I would demand that my kids get extra classes in math and writing while the others are learning about Jesus. I would be ok with that.
