Experimental Substrates

Hey guys!

Today I was making some PF Tek substrate and ran out of brown rice flour. So being the creative guy I am, I decided to experiment.

I've used the folloing in various combinations.

- White Rice
- Popcorn (un popped)
- OXO Beef Boulion mix
- Mr Noodle noodles
- Breton crackers
- White rice noodles

Any idea if it'll grow mycellium??

Popcorn is good but white rice doesn't have enough nutrients. Corn meal is also good.

I have used white rice before, of the instant variety, good results.

everything else will prob work to varying degrees exept the buillon. that prob won't work at all.

I doubt it will grow anything useful. Crackers, noodles all that storebought crap will probalby have some form of fungicide or preservative in it that will, in my prediction prevent colonization of mycelium

I dont know if the crackers will work, but im sure bullion has heavy amounts of salt in them, and I believe salt prohibits the growth of bacteria, and possibly fungus- Think of salted fish that can stay out of the fridge for weeks...But hey man, if it works, let us know. Im too cheap to experiment- I go with the concensus
