I ate one of my spent vermiculite/rice cakes. It was particularly nasty. Its not really the taste, its the texture. Ugg.

I've been thinking about using popcorn for a while now. It seems like it should work.

I had a discussion with somebody regarding this already. Popcorn IS nutritous and would be an ideal substrate except for on underlying fact that you guys seem to have overlooked. Be it this, the structural integrity of popcorn, why don't you get popcorn a bit wet, it turns into absolute mush. The only possible thing I can think of is IF there's enough popcorn husks it might aerate it. Although there's so many preservatives and what not in popcorn it might not be suitable to begin with. Food For Thought =)

I gotta agree with ripper. Add water and you have mush. Anyone ever try organic corn meal? That is if you are really intent on using corn based substrates.

Hi Ripper:-)

A good friend of mine once tried popcorn, once, and only once. It turned to mush and absolutely didn't work. It's the water, same thing happens to cardboard too:-( Imagine psychoactive popcorn!!! I'd pay $7.00 for a small movie bucket of that
