Drying - Without exposed mushrooms

Recently moved. Roommate is allergic to shrooms. I'm growing in my room. That part doesn't bother her. Drying, however, WILL.

Can't leave a fan on in room, closed air system. Bad windows for fan at shrooms at window (Basement apt anyways). I was thinking of rigging something up with a large rubbermaid container: Make it airtight, put a 6" fan in through a slit in the side (Sealed afterwords), angled down at shrooms on a grill. Under grill is tupperware container with 5lbs of Drierite.

WOuld this work? How well? WOuld I need to fan or anything to allow fresh air through? Oven drying wouldn't do, nor any exposed air system... the mere scent of them sets off an allergic reaction that closes off her throat... But I have no issues with my shelving unit in the basement corner...

Yes.

Probably very well.

No.
The only drawback to this method is that you would have to exchange/recharge the drierite quite often.
DRIERITE has a water capacity of 10 to 14 weight percent., means if you have 5 pounds of it, you will be able to dry a good half pound of fresh shrooms, then have to change it.

You dont need a fan!.. Theres a very good method that requires one of those lamps you can shine somewhere with a 60 watt bulb and a black shirt. put the shrooms down on a bunch of paper towels. cover with a black shirt. shine the lamp around 30 inches from it.. within 24 hours theyll be hard as hell and no fan required..

I read about this idea, the problem with it in my environment is that the mere scent of them will cause issue. That's why I'm looking for a solution that can be accomplished via a large rubbermaid container - A shirt won't contain the particles which cause a reaction, much like how a window screen won't stop hayfever from hitting a person...

Would this work if I put the whole thing in a rubbermaid container? Or would it cause a fire / eat holes from the heat and the enclosed plastic container?

Dry them start to finish in an airtight container with plenty of dessicant.

i thought heat kills pysocbliyn (sp) content


if anyoen coudl tell me how long shrooms on a screen over calcium chloirde takes to dry fully, i woudl appreciate it :)

DorkVader, I don't see why you can't use dessicant in an airtight container... This will solve your problem, and it just happens to be the best way to dry your shrooms. Do it this way.

Aenima, the t-shirt thing works ok, not as good as dessicant will work. Heat does kill psilocybin, but not a very low heat. If you use a light and a blaqck t-shirt to dry the shrooms, you should also use a fan. Just point the fan over the shrooms. This will help dry them, and keep the heat down.

Shrooms dried by dessicant (calcium chloride) take about 2-3 days to dry fully.

finally got some calcium chloride yesterday, after speaking to various ppl in various shops, went back to the one i looked in first (and looked in a week ago) asked some more ppl, spoke to head of shop floor type person who walkied roudn with me and found it in a corner

put the calcium C. in a cake tin, covered over with soem curtain netting, put shrooms on top, 12 hours later almost dry, expecting them done in another 12 hours or so. WOuld reccomend this for drying them, no smell, unless you open container but thsi can be done out of window to aviod smell getting into your room.

abit dissappointed at how much the shrooms shrival up tho, looked like a i had a decent amount when i put them in the tin, and rthis morning almost nothing there :S

as long as you keep the clip light 18-24 inches away from the critters, heat should not reduce potency. I have used this method almost exclusively and never had any problems.( My problems these days are maintaining proper humidity..)
