Zoo Poo
    #3752175 -

Does anybody have any experiance getting poo from a local zoo? I'm wondering if anybody out there has done so (actually I know for a fact people have) and how they approached the zoo in doing so. Who at the zoo did you approach and how did you explain to them your need for elephant and zebra crap? Were they easy to deal with? And in all....Is it worth the effort? Did exotic poo have any benefits over steer/horse poo?

Well, if you go and ask for poo at a regular zoo you aren't going to get exactly what you need unless you do the steps yourself. The coined term Zoo Poo comes from the woodland park Zoo and it's correctly composted with the right mixture of straw, leaves, wood chips, poo (of course) and other goodies. In other words, they have the right blend of ingredients for a perfect bulk substrate.

If you go and just ask for poo, you aren't likely to get the stuff at the correct stage of decomposition, i.e. composted. There is more work involved beyond getting the poo itself.

I wasn't referring to that compost and its relation to the title of my thread is purely coincindental

Ah ok, well it would be interesting to see how zoo poo compares to horse dung. Do you have a zoo nearby you? Don't think too much about asking around at the zoo, people aren't pre-programmed to be suspicious of mushroom growers seeking out poo for that exact purpose, know what I mean? Just make something up, it always works.

I emailed my zoo and they said they no longer make manure avaible to the public. Then i asked them what they did with all the shit and they never responded.

Email..Thats a good idea. Time to hit google....I'm not interested in buying a zoo admission for 30 bucks just so I get some some free poo and I couldn't think of a way to even get in contact with zoo people without walking inside of the zoo. The zoo sucks anyway....I see enough depressed and caged animals when I'm waiting for the metro

Sucks they don't make it availible to the public where your at, maybe I'll have better luck.
