Horse poo finally...
    #4148086 - 05/07/05 09:38 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

Hey All. It has been a while, but I am slinking around getting wbs shit done. I have finally picked up a fantastic horse poo supply. Unlimited, free, aged (looks like top soil!), perfect perfect horse poo.

Now I have read the texts and done the searches. I know the mix of straw to poo is very up to personal preference. I want some solid facts.

How much straw to how much poo is worth the time? Has anyone found any reason not to use xyz combinations?

Please state your response in ratio format, % if needed. Thanks so much.

Also, I have finished my Martha. I inserted some Martha chrome shelving that just fits like Martha wanted me to grow something in there. The ultrasonic + cool mist are plumbed together at a "T" before entering the chamber. I was wondering if anyone was interested in pics? I need to buy a digital camera, so before I do I need some motivation. Bulk grow pics coming when they get here. I will post grow logs.

Peace
AD

I know what strikes me as odd about this. It is totally unnatural. The whole idea is just totally backwards.

So are historians going to look back at 'The Great Cake Eaters'? Damn. That was a backwards step in the evolutionary process. We left Shroomheads in the dust. Welcome to the new age of Vermheads.

My advice is to forget the straw, it's not worth the trouble.  Straight poo will give you amazing results, and it's more contam resistant than straw by far.  If you want to supplement the poo, try 50/50 coco coir and horse poo.  Personally, I avoid using straw at all costs.

>>(looks like top soil!), <<
if it has been composted to the point of looking like a black soil then it is not suitable for mushroom cultivation. hope i didnt burst ure bubble and i hope it is still brown for ya

is that true? if so, why? as long as it still contains the nutrients i don't see why it would matter if it was composted (granting that it is otherwise organic)

Yep, good catch lordoftheshroomz. Cubensis mycelium won't touch it for some reason once it gets to the dirt stage of composition. I found a big source of composted horse poo awhile back, it was black and earthy. Nothing, notta...it sucked.

Need this texture:

Because you want the fiber like consistancy that weathered h/poo nuggets & muffins have. If it is degraded into a soil/dirt consistancy.... the lignin / lipid content is gone & the N% is very very low & soil like substrate compacts like mud.

uh oh
i just crumbled BRF to "zoo poo" which is just elephant dung + bedding (straw/sawdust) composted and sold by woodland park zoo in seattle.

RK said it'd work, but when i opened the container up it was pretty much soil. i guess we will see if this is an exception huh?

no worries if not, i've still got most of my cakes left
