Myth, or the possibility of a fact with no basis more reliable than years of rumor.

ybe it has something to do with everyone drinking OJ to mask the taste of dried shrooms... or maybe it has something to do with that friend of a friend that everyone knows who did acid and thought he was a glass of orange juice...

I doubt anyone could get a research grant to study this. I have had people come to the conclusion that since OJ has citric acid in it, its gotta help ACID..... but in the end, it is probably just your mind thinking that since you drank OJ, you will be tripping harder, and thusly, you will.

Hmmm....Seems odd that this rumor is so huge yet no one has research to back it up. I guess sometime someone will actually figure this dang myth out.

I bet it'd be hard as fuck to substantiate it, even in a well-funded research environment... and besides... it could be the potassium. I'm no nutritional expert...i'm not an expert on anything. but here's what i found about potassium by googling...
"Potassium--an electrolyte mineral located in body fluids. Potassium balances the acid/alkaline system, transmits electrical signals between cells and nerves, and enhances athletic performance. It works with sodium to regulate the body's water balance, and is necessary for heart health against hypertension and stroke, (people who take high blood pressure medication are vulnerable to potassium deficiency), muscle function, energy storage, nerve stability, and enzyme and hormone production."
"Potassium helps oxygenate the brain for clear thinking and controls allergic reactions. Stress, hypoglycemia, diarrhea and acute anxiety or depression generally result in potassium deficiency. A potassium broth from vegetables is one of the greatest natural healing tools available for cleansing and restoring body energy..."
Like I said...I'm no expert, so I don't understand most of that crap...but if you're tripping and you get this potassium, then it could help oxygenate your brain better, leading to a "clearer" mental feel.. which might explain the "lift" that some people talk about. --------------------------- Here's some of the functions of Vitamin C also... * As a participant in hydroxylation, vitamin C is needed for the production of collagen in the connective tissue. These fibres are ubiquitous throughout the body; providing firm but flexible structure. Some tissues have a greater percentage of collagen, especially: skin, mucous membranes, teeth and bones. * Vitamin C is required for synthesis of dopamine, noradrenaline and adrenaline in the nervous system or in the adrenal glands. * Vitamin C is also needed to synthesise carnitine, important in the transfer of energy to the cell mitochondria. * It is a strong antioxidant. * The tissues with greatest percentage of vitamin C ? over 100 times the level in blood plasma ? are the adrenal glands, pituitary, thymus, corpus luteum, and retina. * The brain, spleen, lung, testicle, lymph nodes, liver, thyroid, small intestinal mucosa, leukocytes, pancreas, kidney and salivary glands usually have 10 to 50 times the concentration present in plasma. ------------------------------ i'm sure someone around here understands this stuff...

I have read somewhere that taking vitamins as a pre load, not RIGHT before but the day before or hours before a trip helps build up the chemicals in the brain that are let loose in your system that cause the trip. (i.e. serotonin.) thats just something ive heard and it made since to me. a healthy brain could help make a HEALTHY trip!
