frustrating roomate

first off, i moved in with my roomate knowing he was bipolar, so i had some idea of what i was getting into. i went to middle/high school with him and he is a good friend of mine. but he's a shitty roomate and hes driving me insane. i have virtually no privacy at all, which sucks, because i lived alone for 6 months and that was really great. now i just cant stand to be around him for any period of time longer than a few hours. also, i'm not really very good at being confrontational, and in this case, i dont think that it would help, considering that i share space with him, i just dont want the drama, so im just an ass to him when he starts to bother me. shit sucks. i have another friend who is moving into town in a couple months, and i know that he would be a better roomate than my current one. i would like to move out of here when he moves here, but we are in a lease and it would be fucked up to leave him with that. i want to move out so bad tho. i dont even really know why i posted this other than to vent. but i guess if you folks could share any helpful advice i would appreciate it. thanks for reading this boring ass post.

Leave after the lease is up, or try to help him find another roommate to fill your spot. You're going to have to confront him about it, there's no other way.

give him warning. say i'm gone in 30 days (or however many you feel good) so you'd better find another roomate fast.

That's not very pubby of you. Afoaf is kind of right, which is pretty unpubish of me... but
Don't move in with people who have severe mental problems. Unless you are prepared to deal with it.

"I don't like being confrontatonal"
I don't either, but thats no excuse to let irritations boil inside you.
If i've learned anything valuable in college, its this: If someone is doing something that annoys you, even if its your problem, and its a stupid thing that shouldn't bother anyone, you should confront them. Just say something like
"Look man, I'm sorry, but the way you smack your gum really bugs me, I get all pissed off, I don't mean too, sorry man but i just needed to tell you."
people react positively to that kind of thing, for some reason, AND they stop doing the thing that bugs you.
Keeping your mouth shut doesn't solve much, plus you usually end up being a dick in subtle ways.

At least, for the period between right before and right after they knock most of your teeth out with their forehead.

I should note that you never actually mentioned anything specific that he's done wrong, you've just said that you're "an ass to him" when he's being annoying.
What has he actually done wrong?

From personal experience once you've lived by yourself you can never live with roomates again. Help the guy find someone to take over the lease and move out by yourself.
