I didnt mean actually in the same room, that'll suck balls(literally?)

I meant more of a housemate, to split rent with and for someone to wash the dishes and vacuum and clean stuff.

When I was in college I rented out all the rooms and lived in the garage untill a biker wanted the garage for him and his bike. Eventualy I just moved out and let the renters manage the place. I found being "Boss" stressfull.

My uncle suggests instead of charging a fixed rent to just let one person pay the electric while another pays another bill, that way a group with varying resources can coexist. I got into trouble with other peoples furniture, a girl would move out and take the couch saying it was hers and I couldn't remember if it was or wasn't.

You can pick up bargains when students graduate and then resell, but then all kinds of strange people come to the house, but they will anyway considering your roomates will invite people over.

Is being wealthy, and harboring freeloaders, less inconveniencing?

You don't have to be wealthy to not have a roommate.  You just need different priorities.

I agree, I just thought that wealthy people probably need company and that many of them actualy tote around freeloaders, and I thought that being a landlord relying on rent may be on the same level, stress wise, as being a parent or a wealthy person relying on freeloaders for company.

Having roomates can go either way. It can rule, or it can suck. My first two roommates in college were the definition of "suck". I only managed to stick around for about 4 months, before they called the cops on me for smoking pot in my bedroom. Alone. With the door closed. Psycho bitches. That was the last of many straws for me.

At the time, I was working at a pizza place with another guy from college. He and my assistant manager lived in a duplex together and had an empty basement. I told them of my predicament and they let me move into the basement. They left me alone when I wanted to be alone, they partied with me when I wanted to be partied with...it was a great living situation. Had the whole basement floor to myself. I was sad when it was time for the lease to expire. So having roommates isn't all bad, especially when your roommates let you eat their hot wings from hooters and smoke their pot. :smirk:

When you get a roomate do they like automatically bacome your best friend no matter how different you are?
When seeking a roomate how specific can you get before becoming an ass?
I need to know.

Well you can get good room mates....and shitty ones

I have had the fortune of having MOSTLY all good room mates, with a couple exceptions. In first year university I was stuck in residence...but I got stuck with someone I had at least met before (he went to my HS). He was awesome and we had a lot in common so we never fought. I ended up moving in with him second year when we got a house.

The first year that I lived in that house was OK...I had my room mate from first year, plus 2 other guys that I had been to HS with and so knew fairly well. There was one other guy (who owned the house) and he was pretty cool, got along with him just fine. Then we had "the mullets" who lived downstairs and who were the dirtiest people I have ever known. Guy and his chick were engaged. They moved out (at our very verbal advice) after the first year though.

Then the next year my 2 friends from HS moved out, and the mullets left. Three of my friends (again, from HS) moved in and we started a band together. Had an absolute blast for the next few years! Party 24/7 and every night there'd be like 20 people over at our house after the bars closed.

After some time spent at home again, I'm now living with my gf. Let me tell you...it's something else having a room mate you can fuck

at university, i had two random roommates, one per year (did 2 years at that uni).

i felt bad for them- they had to put with me cooking cactus juice all the time (makes the apartment reek) or making DMT (hexane smells too)....or making hash brownies. or extracting codeine with chloroform. or huffing ether to get high. it never ended with the weird smelling shit. not to mention the pot smoke. and although neither roomie ever said anything- one time I had the apartment smelling like cactus for like 3 days straight (i was making lots of mescaline juice)- i could tell by the look on his face, he wasn't pleased, lol.

that's why i try not to have roommates- for their sake. i'm always doing weird things that may agitate a normal person. like grinding poppy pods at 6am- he didn't like that either, LOL. or how I always made him wait for me to take bong hits before we could go buy food.

like adrug said- it depends on the person. i'm a fairly horrible roommate for any average non-drug-seeking person. i'm only compatible with people on my wavelength.

I lived in a 4-bedroom house with my best friend.  It had a downstairs and upstairs, he was in teh basement and I was upstairs.  We only really shared the kitchen, which was big enough to hold both of our kitchen supplies, so for me, it wasn't bad at all.  It was just like living in an apartment that had a communal kitchen.

Bills sucked though.

And we're still best friends.

He did fuck on my couch in the backyard though, pissed me off.
