Question to those w digital temp/humidity guages...

My humidity reading is "EE" (backwards 33), which I'm guessing is 'error.' It's a brand new Weatherstation guage and I've reset it several times. Does anybody know what EE means and how to fix it? Or do I have a bad guage?

Consult the operating manual yet? Mine has done this several times in the past while changing out batteries or taking them out, but it resets and goes back to reading the humidity shortly after. Is yours stuck in EE constantly?

Yeah the manual doesn't say anything about it, it does seem to be stuck on EE. But I did put it in the bathroom with me the other day while I was taking a shower and it got up to about 85%. I'm wondering if the humidity is too low for it to read maybe?? But still I would think it would say 0 instead of EE.

That would be it then. There is a minimum humidity some of these gauges can register I believe, so if it drops below, say 55%, you'll just get EE instead of 54. Make sense?

How much condensation is forming in your terrarium? Alot of digital hygrometers only have a range up to 90% or 95%. If its above that then they'll say EE as well... I'd say get a cheap $2-3 analog one from walmart, check and see what it says. If its in the 70s or 80s, they your humidity is probably over the digital's range, not under. The cheap analogs usually won't register over ~85, just return it when ur done testing... gl

I'd bet its to low. Mine says E in my incubator and 99% in my fruiting chamber. Only up to 85% in the shower though? If you take showers like me and theres steam everywhere it sounds like that might not read above 85 (the usual cutoff). Also keeping it in the high humidity environment (unless just a probe of course) can cause digis to start giving errors and cut out after a few months IME.

Even after a few weeks I dod not use my RH gauge anymore. Its a digital one, but now the shrooms tell me, and if they are doing fine its ok.
To have very precise digital equipment is not worth the money either. In my case.

Not really...it only works for 75% but as we go over all the time...alot of guages stop at 85% since above this is uncomfortable and unhealthy for people. Calibration at 75%rh wont do us much good in this hobby often its not the calibration of a guage thats the problem, but the limits of it.

If you have not damaged your meter... Then it translates into one of two things...
1. Your meter has maxed out. If the range is 10 RH to 90 RH then you are in a location that is 0 RH to 9 RH, or 91 RH to 100 RH. Solution: move to an adequate area that is within range of the sensor. Try breathing on it, or throwing it inside a ziplock bag with a damp paper-towel. (Make sure the towel is on the opposite side, not directly on the sensor.) Or, try holding it six inches from an electric heat source if you think you are in the upper limit.
2. Your meter is wet, phisically there may be a water drop in there, which will cause any meter to not function. It just shorts out the contacts that read the humidity. (Moist dust can also do this if it gets in the sensor.) Solution: Blow it out with air, or swab it with alcohol, then blow it out with air.
