Between Flushes Question

After my friends first flush was over he noticed lots of aborts amongst the casing material (50/50). He cleaned them off the best he could but ended up taking about a quarter inch of the material out. He then put some fresh moist casing material on top and filled in the sides as well. He gave it a good misting and put it back in the terrarium at 95% humidity.

Has my friend gone about this procedure correctly.

So, we meet again. You didn't take a fork to it? I believe that's an important step. It provides air thruout the casing.
That casing layer can become a bit dense.

When my friend took a fork to it like you said he found lots of aborts and tiny pins throughout the casing material, many of these were below the surface of the casing. Some of them were beginning to rot. So most of the casing material was removed and replaced with fresh Jiffy Mix. Since my friend basically recased these casings should he put them back in the dark, let the CO2 build up, and raise temp back to 85 or should he just leave in terrarium with light, 78 degree temp, and fanning twice daily?
