Sorry for the dumb question, but I've seen this word used over and over, and I'm not sure what it means.... What is a flush? And yes, I'm aware that a flush is what occurs when you press the lever on your toilet =)

but anyways. its when you push the lever on the toilet.
just kidding.
a flush is where you "flush" (remove) all of the fruit bodies when they are ready.
when they are ready you ask?
before the veil breaks / b4 the caps start to open,
what is a veil you ask?
its the thin tissue that protects the spores, that is attached to the cap & stem.
usually you have an even pinset when you "flush" your casing.
what is an even pinset you ask?
its where all your fruit bodies are even in growth.

that should do you in as far as answers....
...need anymore?

Why do you remove the fruit bodies before the veil breaks instead of after the veil breaks? Does this affect the next flush?

yeah, I was planning on using the MMGG for my first attempt, but someone told me to try the straw tek. I think now, I will stay with the MMGG for my first try, even if it doesn't yield as many shrooms as the straw tek. I may try the straw tek later.

No, you can do something yourself instead of posting stupid quiestions(your definition!), and you won?t be a newbie in a reasonable time.
I off course was born with the gift of mushroom cultivation and newer was a newbie at all.(if you belive it)

That's okay Anno, you don't have to explain yourself to me. You are obviously on a much higher 'shroom' scale than me and I obviously don't deserve to be replied to by someone of your status here. Perhaps someday, I will be as knowledgeable as yourself and I will understand how you feel when you see a "stupid" question. However, I hope that I will provide help and show courtesy to the most extreme newbie, regardless of how smart I am. I apologize for you reading my newbie post and therefore wasting your time replying to me. Feel free to never reply to my posts again; I'm sure if I'm desperate enough, I will find the answers elsewhere. Oh, and thank you for the links... I will study them.

don't give anno shit newb! hehe just fuckin wit ya... but seriously... anno is well respected here and i am big fan of his! your question did display blatant fucking ignorance :smile: reminiscent of some schoolkid wanting the teacher to sit his exam for him... do some reading! all these quesions are answered with a quick perusal of many of the documents available on line or offline in books (tmc, o&o books, etc...)

a "flush" is the developing mushrooms that grow simultaneously as the result of an "even pinset"... an even pinset is primordia that develops equally across the casing... with a good even pinset you will get a large yield from the first flush... the second flush is the result of hyphal knots that started developing under the first flush... when recased these will grow almost immediately after... stamets says in tmc that 60-70% of the total yield from a casing can come from the first two flushes if you do it correctly...
