    #1064384 - 11/18/02 10:20 PM (22 years, 3 months ago)

hey, this is my first post on Shroomery, im always chillin on OG and i asked over there but someone told me to try on this board so i was lookin for a little help..

I built my terrarrium today with a 10 G fishtank, 2 Blue lights, an Air Filter and everything else in the glass econemy terrarrium setup posted in one of the forums, but i was wondering a couple things...

What is Hardware Cloth?
When I am crumbelling my cakes into my terrarrium how many can i put in, and do i just crumble it with my hands? Do i scrath right away?
Is there a post with pictures showing good instructions on casing in a terrarrium?

Thanks alot for your help.
Peace

Hardware Cloth? No idea. As for your cakes. One cake per zip lock bag. Open the jar and dump the cake into the zip lock bag. Break up the cakes for casing purposes while they are inside of the bags. I like this method. I know it is rather extreme and most likely a waste of time, but I never have had any casings which have gotten contaminated, not once!

I don't understand your question..."light bulb in water". But, I would assume the water would have an adverse bending of the light rays. The light's direction would be altered by the water and the water container. My first attempt included a small fish tank maybe 5-8 gallons. I had a cover made of plexi glass and a grow light bulb...cheap one from a gardening store which was suspended about a foot from the top of the terrarium. As far as air flow, I merely removed the lid about 3 times a day and fanned with the lid for about 30 seconds. Are you doing cakes or casings? I did cakes my first time and that was my last. I didn't like having such a large volume of space producing only a few mushrooms per cake. Casings are much better. Hit us up with a more descriptive question.

http://www.shroomery.org/findorgrowthem.php?View=docs&doc=122

and the question about the hardware cloth is from
http://shroomery.org/findorgrowthem.php?View=docs&doc=98

I read the article on the light bulb in the water and I think it is a little dangerous, and stupid. The idea is good, I mean the light bulb would heat the water and provide light, but its sounds a little wierd. I only give my cubies about 3-5 minutes of light a day. This is enough, and I will see this exposure time inflict growth direction patterns amongt the casings. They might start out a little bit bent to the right or left and then upon another exposure they will change slightly. I think the power of suggestion applies to cubies. They feel/sense the light and grow towards it just like any plant using photosynthesis. I feel they then continue to grow in the same direction unless acted upon by another light source. That sounded like a physics law didn't it.
