Ahoy,
I was wondering if you could use the, Glad microwavable reusable containers for cakes, or would that not werk well? I'm not too sure if I will be able to find canning jars with wide mouths, im just curious. thanks

I am currently using one of those black Glad oven-safe containers with the lid for a casing container. I kept the lid on for a few days and let it incubate on my 12 port network hub which gets fairly warm. It seems to be colonizing just fine and I expect it to start pinning soon since it has been moved to a terrarium and uncovered.

I've got 4 gladware containers going right now. I treat them as jars up until time to birth. Rather than birthing and treating as a cake, I remove the verm barrier and case with 50/50. Works great. Just be careful moving them during colonization. The containers are extremely flexible and squeezing them while moving them could create a vacuum drawing air into the container, potential contam risk. But I leave mine alone until completely colonized only moving them after the first 10 days or so and gently then. Maybe it's unnecessary paranoia but I haven't had a contam yet.

What recipe for substrate do you use in a glad container, and, what do you do for sterilation? I put one in the microwave for five minutes (enough?) with a basic BRF recipe.

What's you tek?
Thanx...

The medium sized square one works EXCELLENT, I use them strictly for casing right now.

Twenty-twenty-twenty four hours to go

**Check out the FSR you may find something you like, maybe a Puerto Rician Cubensis Syringe**

I use the max fruiting formula, 1/4 cup BRF 1/4 cup water 1/2 cup verm. I sterilized the same way I do jars, in a pot of boiling water for an hour. After they have completely cooled I do a 5 point inoculation, all 4 corners and the middle. I don't make the inoculation holes until i'm ready to inoculate. I use sharp syringes and they poke right through the lids of these things with no problem. If you want to do casings, this is by far the laziest way. Just let 'em colonize, take the lid off and case.

If treating these plastic containers as substrate jars, couldn't you sterilize them by tossing them in the nuker for bout 5 minutes? Im testing this out right now, and not a sign of a contam.
