Yes, I've used the Glad 3 1/8 cup square containers. I've found that when using a microwave, that it's best that the substrate be as shallow as possible that's why I use the flatter containers. My biggest problem was getting the moisture content correct. In my experience, microwaving in these containers worked better than boiling of jars (without the PC).

What do you mean by the substrate being as shallow as possible?

The canning jars I used before were about 3 1/2 inches deep and only hold 1 cup, whereas the Glad containers are only about 2 inches deep but hold 3 1/8 cups. I did some experiments heating things up in a microwave and putting a candy thermometer into the substrate to check the temperature. If the substrate is deeper, it takes a lot longer to heat up the middle. A container that is flatter allows better penetration of the microwaves through the substrate. So, when I pick Glad containers I look for the ones that have the lowest profile.

I prefer Glad containers to glass jars. I fill the container to the top and cover the surface with a large sheet of HDPE plastic cut from a plastic grocerey bag. Then I put the cover over the plastic with the excess plastic sticking out on one side and fold the excess over the top of the container and secure everything with a rubber band The first layer of plastic replaces the top layer of vern (Ramsey seal) and the plastic that goes over the top replaces the aluminum foil

I forgot to mention you can either inoculate right through the top of the container or punch holes in the lid and in and inoculate just through the top layer of plastic. Glad containers can be stacked and sterilized in a PC.
