I had this problem also. Only one of my casings recolonized within a week and it was PF. My other two didn't even recolonize. I did however keep them covered and in the water heater closet, where it's in the mid 80's. Is that to warm, should I keep them room temp, 75deg ?

It could be a latent contam. Dig out a core sample and tell me what you see.

hey guys,
temp is 82 deg, 50/50 casing mixture, moisture content i'm not sure of the percentage but it was made extra moist to pasturize(SP) then excess squeezed out as it was applied. casing is also fluffy and airy has good texture and approx. 1/2 to 5/8 deep. No peculiar odors or anything, smells just like shrooms. no visible sign of contaminations. Dug down into casing to substate layer, looks like it did when cased except that it appears to have grown together somewhat. I aint got a clue ! Normally it would just get tossed, but its not just 1 casing it is 2 and a quart of grain in each and would like to know what causes this so it dont happen again. like i said before the only thing my monkey can figure out is it did not get any air for 24 hrs. Do ya think they could have suffocated?

thanks again and have a nice day dudes !

These are all good points. There COULD be a latent contaminant. Also, there COULD be some contamination in your casing layer. But, most likely, unless you "smell" different it could just be your lack of patience.

hey guys,
thanks alot for the imput, And yes i did use hydrated lime to buffer casing. But Actually i think Brown Pastures might have a point about patience as i took a looky see right before i logged on and i'm not sure (will have definative answer tommorrow) but i think i can see it under the casing. Time will tell !
Once again thanks heaps !
