Let mycelium overgrow casing or no casing w/EQ's?
    #367509 - 08/06/01 01:08 AM (22 years, 7 months ago)

im thinking of colonizing whole grain rye with the ecuadorian strain of p.cub, should i case it, and, if so, case both bottom and top or just top? could i just lay out spawn in a tray and stick in terrerium? also, should i leave the casing in the dark until mycelium overgrows it or just for a couple days?

Don't let the mycelium cover the top.... only keep it in the dark for a couple days.

how does the mycelium get light to know to pin? can you put colonized rye down as a substrate and cold shock or something without having to case?

The mycelial mass is the real organism. It uses the enegy to either continue growing vegitativly or produce carpophores depending on the environment it encounters. Light triggers fruiting and light plus fresh air and water help mushies get big and make more spores. Like a game of rummy there are many variations. Use what you like best. Peace.
