Hypnotism

How does it work?
Does it take away ones personal will?
Do you know your hypnotised when your under hypnosis?
Could you be hypnotized your whole life without realizing it?
Are you hypnotized? Am I hypnotized? Are we all hypnotized?
If so, Whos the hypnotist?

hypnotism is a complex interplay bettween trance, belief and the subtle interaction bettween the person's subconscious and the person doing the hypnosis.

trance is when you get your conscious mind to just STOP for a while. a good hypnotist then goes in and accesses your subconscious belief system (has been mentally taking notes and figuring you out as soon as you meet). if your subconscious agrees with what is going on, the hypnotist SUGGESTS new beliefs or suggests which beliefs to re-enforce. when you come out, you're the same person, except you've got new beliefs to act on/explore. in that sense we are all very hypnotised, it is natural.

no its like a computer and hypnosis is just a form of reprograming.

nope conscious can sort through ideas, thoughts facts ect.. subconscious accepts everything that it is told

yes

Are you hypnotized? Am I hypnotized? Are we all hypnotized?
on different levels could be. hypnotized by fear, social conditioning, upbringing ect.

as i understand it yes subconscious has a will and no it doesn't accept everything it is told. during hypnotism it accepts what it wants to believe.

subconscious can't tell between whats true or not. but if you have alot of inhibition it won't accept certain suggestions that is out of the ordainary that is in your life. in a hypnosis session you still control your mind and if you reject a suggestion consciously so will your subconscious unless if you give up total control to the hypnotist.
its not subconscious that rejects suggestions its your conscious mind. what ever your conscious mind accepts so will your subconscious. subconscious is the computer of the mind. and the mind works what ever is programed into it.

look at what you learned as a kid and what your parents told you. and look how it affected your life from then and now how you have changed what happened if your parents didn't tell you the things that they did would you be changed?

some data is sensation
some is memory
some is thought

suggestion can modify thought and memory
in hypnosis
suggestion fills in for thought almost completely
any images in your mind can be ordered to appear in any sequence.
memory can be enhanced and re-ordered - not reliable

I really want to be hypnotised, it seems like such a strange idea. I can't imagine someone putting me in a trance through subtle psychological cues.

Hypnosis has a lot of different levels of deph,
most commonly 3 are mentioned somnolency, catalepsy,and somnambulism.
I hope these words are said like that in english (English is not my main language)

The shalowest forms of somnolency are experienced by all of use almost every day. Like when you get lost in your thoughts and look through the window detaching yourself from the environment, you are
actually in a mild state of somnolency.
Or when you are watching a movie, this is allso mild hypnosis.

Here is a little subjective description:

"Real" (deeper that is) hypnosis is a very pleasant state of mind,
it's like there is a huge weight lifted of your sholder, you feel like
a plant just living and growing.
If you close your eyes, it is as if you are swiming in a pleasant
warm total darkness, and you don't miss any stimuli, you just ARE.

In that state you can control your mind if you have enough practice.
You can shut off all sounds from the environment, block pain, suggest different feelings to yourself, but I think the best of all is the ability to control yourself after you "wake up" : you can program yourself to feel relaxed and peacefull or full or energy all day, or block fears.

There is absolutley no reason to be afraid of hypnosis because you have total control and even if you somehow doubt this control and lose it, all that can really happen to you is that you fall to sleep when your mind gets tired.

I encourage everyone to try hypnosis, it is wonderfull. If you are insecure about your own abilities, go to a pro hypnotist and he will show you how can you enter this trans.

There are dozens upon dozens of theories which attempt to explain how hypnosis works. Different models work - I stay with a simple one described by the late Dave Elman in his book 'Hypnotherapy.' I use the Dave Elman Induction 95% of the time. It generally takes 6-10 minutes for the subject to attain true Somnambulism, the so-called 'working state' of hypnosis.

No, it does not take away one's will, neither will one violate one's sense of personal morality. People can and do lie in hypnosis, but much of that may have to do with deep-seated denial coming out.

The greater majority of adults and adolescents that I've hypnotized for the first time don't think they've been hypnotized. It is always amusing to perform simple tests, then remind the subject of the results that didn't make sense. For example, while in hypnosis you might ask somone with eyes closed to count their fingers but there will be no number between 5 and 7. Then have them open their eyes and count aloud: '1-2-3-4-5-7-8-9-10-11!!!' What? I have 11 fingers?! Always funny to me, confusing to the subject. One doesn't keep them in this state of incredulity for long. They close their eyes and we proceed. 'Hey, I heard everything you said!' [No, duh.] 'Hey, I remember everything!' [They don't know if a post-hypnotic suggestion was given NOT to remember something].

Ever mindlessly push buttons on your TV remote without watching anything in particular? [Stand 20 feet away from a TV and watch the numerous flickering scene changes without watching or listening to content]. Ever drive past your exit on the highway, or arrive home not remembering a single light you actually did stop for, or anything else in particular on the drive home? [Highway hypnosis] Ever yawn just because someone next to you has, or someone on TV has? I talk to kids and use the word yawn about 8 times as a demonstration just to show them how this thing works. Ever actually NOT feel pain when a dentist says: "This might pinch a little," and then he stabs a 2 inch steel large bore Novacaine needle into your mouth?! Ever buy brand name shoes or clothes because 'they're in,' but not realize why you believe they're in? Have you any idea the brilliance behind Nike's motto: "Just Do It?" Are you skilled at picking out visual subliminal ads in magazines? [I have a collection that would blow your mind].

Are people hypnotized? People live in the f**kin' 'Matrix!!!' A whole generation of kids believe that being a 'thug' is the Way to be! Are they thinking for themselves or are they programmed? Have you any idea how violent video games have correlated with actual massacres perpetrated by kids? If I were a fundamentalist I'd be on about the Devil's conspiracy to recruit youth for 'Hell's League of Extraordinary Assh***s.' Sick, morally bereft, greed-addicted scum-of-the-Earth marketers are the hypnotists. Take the Red Pill - whatever it is to you!

This probably isn't what you want to hear, but hypnosis is based on believing that it works, wishful thinking and feeling free to do stupid things and entertain others.

Most of what is known about hypnosis, as opposed to what is believed, has come from studies on the subjects of hypnosis. We know that there is a significant correlation between being imaginative and being responsive to hypnosis. We know that those who are fantasy-prone are also likely to make excellent hypnotic subjects. We know that vivid imagery enhances suggestibility. We know that those who think hypnosis is rubbish can?t be hypnotized. We know that hypnotic subjects are not turned into zombies and are not controlled by their hypnotists. We know that hypnosis does not enhance the accuracy of memory in any special way. We know that a person under hypnosis is very suggestible and that memory is easily ?filled-in? by the imagination and by suggestions made under hypnosis. We know that confabulation is quite common while under hypnosis and that many States do not allow testimony which has been induced by hypnosis because it is intrinsically unreliable. Markos, I wouldn't call somnambulism the "working state" of hypnosis.
It's quite rare actually. Kathalepsy (or whatever it's spelled like)
is the state in which therapists usually work with patients.

Only about 20% people CAN fall into real somnambulism , and it doesn't work everytime for them.

They are the really strong believers! It's all about believing in hypnotism. It doesn't really 'work'. Stop believing this common myth!
