Cloning on substrate

Has anyone ever cloned a mushroom by simply placing a piece of the cap or upper stem directly on the substrate in a jar? I've worked with agar before, but I'd much rather simplify the process and work with the substrate instead. I've heard that it can be done, but I wanted to get some advice from anyone who's tried it.

I asked Ryche Hawk the same question, though I haven't tried it myself, and he said that it can be done if you use the part of the cap right under the gills.

i read a segment of a book (either the oss and oeric one or the mushroom cultivator) and it said that you just take of the skin of a cap and the spongy stuff underneath the skin has millions of spores in it and to use that. they said that you use just a small piece of this to innoculate a jar of rye.

Headshok, I mixed up a batch of vermiculite and ground rye flour late last week and made up several jars. I dropped in a small piece from the cap of one mushroom, and as of this moment I'm looking at some healthy mycelium growth in each of the jars from the mushroom piece. So the answer is a big yes! It can be done.

What are you, some kind of holier-than-thou megalomaniac??? If you read my first post in this thread, you'll see that I had thought of that too...and it was quite a while ago, I'll have you know. This forum isn't for talking shit (and I've noticed you like to do that), so shut up and calm down. You're not the first one to have this idea, and neither am I. I'm willing to bet there are many others who have cloned mushrooms the same way. So quit your griping...I didn't steal your idea. And one more thing...if you HAD successfully done it, would you have shared your results with anyone here at the Shroomery? Probably not. This is a place for sharing information and ideas so others can cultivate the sacred mushroom. It's people like you that give us a bad rap!
