Has anyone got an experience with train a dog to find shrooms?? The only reason i ask, is that i know that they use pigs to find those thingys in france...

Weird.. I was thinking exactly the same thing today as I searched fruitlessly (hah) for some cubes.. Do animals willingly ingest psychoactive mushrooms? The dog may eat his findings :)

yeah It wouldn't be that hard. it would take a weeks or two but here's what you could try. get some mushrooms and let the dog smell them and say shrooms or any other word you want him to relate to. than put tham on the ground walk ten feet away get him to sit and say find the shrooms and walk him over to the mushrooms tell him to sit and give him a treat. slowly he's like hmm when I go to these I get a treat wow that's all I have to do. than when he gets good at that hide it under a box in the middle of the yard and tell him to find them he might go to it right away or he might take awile but just do the same thing when he finds it tell him to sit and give him a treat. when he gets good at that hide it someplace easy at first and see if he'll find it keep on doing this for awhile then for a final test bring him inside and go out and hide the shrooms in a really hard place go get him and say find the srooms and by now he should start looking right away because he knows he'll get a treat now when he finds it give him a big hug and a kiss and a treat you may went to do this a couple of times just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. but when he gets it every time take him in the woods.

Actually, i have heard about training pigs to find TRUFFLES.. which are under the soil. Hoever, these bigs are kept on large chains, because as soon as they find the truffles they have to be yanked back, or they will eat them themselves. <G>

I think he'd only have to eat cubies once or twice, then he'd learn his lesson :P
Anywho, if I had a dog I would try and train it to find mushies, but I dont have one. But what I do know, is dont reward them with a treat, reward them by hugging them, kissing them, saying stuff like "thats a good boy" that way they do thing out of love, and not for a reward.
The same goes when training them to do a trick. If you tell them to do it when you run into friend while walking him, what's he gonna think when you realize you didnt bring treats with him?
