Correct dosage and use for good Ginko?
    #3564171 -

I harvested about 4 lbs of good green Ginko biloba leaves, and about 8 lbs of freshly fallen yellow ones which were heat dried in a clothes dryer.

What should I do with all this ginko?

Quote:
DOSAGE: Most research has been done with a gingko biloba extract which contained a 24% concentration of flavinoid extract. At this strength, the usual dosage is 120-160mg per day taken in three divided doses. However, many gingko products are lower in potency, and may require dosages as high as 1000mg per day. Three to six months is probably needed to evaluate the results.

- from erowid, I think you have to make an extract...

A reputable and reliable psychopharmacologist friend of mine said that he would recommend against taking Ginkgo Biloba, because it has been shown to aggravate brain hemorrhaging and decrease platelet response. However, he has not shown me any studies or anything of the sort to assure me of this, but I trust him enough that I have stayed away from Ginkgo. Just a heads up.

Years of use suggests otherwise though - although given what it does it seems kind of unlikely, it sounds like it does things along the lines of trepanning, which burns out the mind some 20 years before your usual person would die.

Did some research on this - cross referenced on a few sites to check if they agreed with the info and it seems that it also acts as an anti-coagulant - explaining the aggrevated brain hemmorhaging and decrease platlet response.

dblaney is right, i used Ginkgo before and did get positive results although I did get negative side effects. The aggravated brain hemorrhaging gave me major headaches as well.

It seemed like it helped me remember things for school although it could of been a placebo effect. keep in mind that ginkgo is a multi-million dollar business, so you will hear otherwise.

i've been a regular ginko user since august - only head-aches i've had were hangovers which a little ginseng/reishi tea seemed to fix right up.
