EZ Terrarium w/ humidity control

The simplest/cheapest terrarium w/ auto gas exchange & humidity control probably looks something like this.
Notice the cracks left in the corners made by the 'lid' being slightly askew. This allows gas exchange & lowers humidity (as perlite can be too much, ya know.). This simple system will get the job done for you every time.

In case anyone can't tell, it's just an upside-down Sterilite/Rubbermaid container. The lid is filled w/ perlite. Using the bottom as a lid helps w/ gas exchange; you don't have to fan heavily to shoo off the CO2. Also nicer for snapping pics. Side views instead of top views.
To make these stackable, you could drill small holes near where the lid fits on and use rubber stoppers for +/- humidity controllers. This is similar to how the DB kit works (I think).

What are the dimensions of that sterlite container? It looks huge.
Never saw one that big.
Where'd ya get it?? I want one!! Controlling humidity with perlite is so touch and go.
I saw in-I think LIL shop.. filter disks over the air exchange holes of his
container that uses fish pumps to pump the filtered air in. I think your big job there
with that clean air tek is what I would like to try together.. yea.. I think that's it.!!

I think it's about 24 inches across. Not really that big. Good idea about adding the filter discs.. I just wanted to show everyone that you don't have to go overboard w/ funky gizmos 'n gadgets to be successful. This method does work and the total cost is about 8 bucks (casings not included ;).

Screw perlite and all that messy stuff.. I just have two things going into my terarrium... a wire for the fish tank heater (provides temps from 85-95F.. my choice) and an air line (connected to two pumps outside and an air stone inside).. provides as much humidity as I like, 24/7... Also, I have a 4" duct fan blowing into my terarrium on a timer... 3 to 4 times a day. The only time I have to ever open my terarrium is to pick mushrooms

I agree perlite is messy so I keep it in individual trays and it works well. Easy to maintain in a 4x14 2 tray and easy to flush off and freshen it up.

marx2k.. would you by any chance have a pic of your set-up that you could post??
I'm revamping everything after my last flop. I'd really like to see it.

Sounds cool. Would like to see some harvest pics from your setup.

I like the sound of that set up marx2k. The auto fan air flow part sounds good to me. I would also like to see a picture of it if you have one. this one here looks really cool but where does it get it's fresh air flow from? I think I missed that part.

I use a similar setup to marx2k. Here's a few pics to show it does work.
This pic shows my humidity setup. In the blue box is 2 air bubbliers. The box is air tight accept for the filter taped on top. All air lines run into one, and then runs into the jars of water. At the end of the air line there is a airstone. Another airline, runs from the top of the jar, into the terrarium.
This pic is of the first flush from my first ever straw and manure casing. I used 4 pints of bs as spawn. The shrooms in the top pic is the harvest for this flush, minus the 20 biggest caps. Since I used them for prints.
peace,
~GF~

All of these tank teks are great, especially when it comes having to go away for vacation or out of the house for a couple of days.
My question is this: by using air bubblers and air stones in small water concentrations, doesn't this also create a bit of a an air exchange? If there is a small outlet for air out of the tank, and the bubbler were to be on a timer for a couple of times a day, would that be enough air exchange?
I guess I'll willing to try if no one else has.

Exactly This method covers humidity and air exchange.
