temp and humidity control.
    #3248081 - 10/12/04 06:57 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

A friend of mine wishes to grow in a small room in his apartment. I just have some general questions. For example, this small room has no air flow, will this be an issue? The main question I have though is this, over the winter the room will become very very cold and be void of most humidity. Anyone have any suggestions/thoughts on this. I was thinking a humidifier, but I still am not too sure what we are going to do with the temp.

The temp can be controled with a small space heater

For humidity control that is going to depend on what your goals are. Small set ups can be done with perlite and Plastic tubs. If you are after larger grows than a Set up with a Martha Closet would be good. You can find all the info on that in the thread called Rye Grain by Magash. It can be found here in Mush Cultivation forum. If you are think larger than that you must have a room set up that can handle humidity at 100% which would mean alot of work.

SO what are you trying to do??

I've been reading the Rye Grain thread since i posted this so Its funny you should bring that up. But Its my buddys grow, he just wants me to help him. I have never grown before neither has he, so we are both more than egar, you know. I think he wants maximum. THe bigger the better type of deal. He told me he did the work and he thinks he wants something like 100-150 jars. I don't know if he thought about casings though, because I lent him a few books but I think the books talk only about cakes. He was hoping for a final yield of about a LB though.

Actually one or two of those closet things is what he appears to have room for.

If he does grains to straw or straw/poo he won't need that many jars. 24 quart jars will inculate a huge amount of straw.

If he is after a large harvest then you don't want cakes anyway.

He has got to do Grain inculation to straw/poo

But since he is starting off new PF jar tek would be the way to go. When he ends up with 24 or 48 jars that are ready for birth. Take half and birth as normal am=nd take half and use for straw/poo

That way you will get some shrooms for sure from your cakes if you screw up the straw. But believe me I f he can get thru PF tek that the jump to bulk straw is very easy.

hm, he does live in an apartment buliding I don't know how the straw/poo thing would fly. I mean, no one complains about the constant smell of marijuana, but I think they would complain about a bunch of shit.

Really??? I use straw and no poo My house smells no different then before I started this strange hobbie. I never used poo so I don't know how it smells while cooking.

Using straight straw works great.

You and/or your friend should learn some basics first..probably start smaller and then work your way up. I think that you will find it pays off in the end. Also, I would advise against such a large grow in the place where you live/rent for many reasons. If you rent than absolutely stay small. Just my advice.

right, right. I kind of feel the same way, but its his grow. I told him the basics of keeping a low profile deal, but he said he wants to do as much as he can, yield wise. We have both been slowly reading up on basics. But We both agree we are the type of people who learn better by 'doing'
