WTF are you talking about?

It makes perfectly good sense to change rape to sexual assault. You're just punished on the severity of the offence.

If there's a difference between the two, you could beat someone up and sodomize them with an inanimate object and it would only be sexual assault. If you restraing them and rape them, without any physical harm, then it would be rape and a harsher offence.

This way, the actions that actually occurred are used to judge the harshness of the offence. Not whether or not there was penetration.

I mean laws in Canada aren't as strict as in the US. Or at least that's what it seems like.

there was a 18 yo guy in my town that worked in a nursing home. he raped an 80 something year old woman and went to prison.

Rape tends to be more about asserting power and control over someone than sexual attraction. I've heard a lot of rapes occur where the rapist isn't even fully erect.

I would never rape anyone but if I were going to I'd make it worth going to jail for. I wouldn't rape an old lady, I'd rape an extremely hot woman. Seems like common sense to me, but I guess not.

I haven't talked to him in about a year, and haven't seen him for about two years...so I'm sure his life situation could have changed drastically in that time.

Apparently this happened back in October. There was a B&E at this lady's house, and she was beaten quite severely then sexually assaulted. They only just arrested my friend for it now, I guess. The paper also said my friend and the old lady knew each other.

I'm not sure what to think. This is fucked up. This guy was one of my best friends right up to the end of high school. I still can't see how he would do something like this (I never even saw him get in a fight, or even get angry ONCE). If he did do it...well just goes to show you how much people can change.
