looking for botanicals that induce sleep
    #3502064 - 12/15/04 02:32 AM (19 years, 3 months ago)

I recently read some trip reports on things like ambien and combinations of things like Valerian root and Wild Dagga and vitamin b6. I am going under a horrible stage of anxiety, regret, resentment that keeps me from sleeping at night because of too much brain activity. I was recently prescribed to ambien, i just took 15mg's and I am still wide awake. Id also like to include dream herb, people imply they had lucid vivid dreams unter the influence of this plant. I am currently doing self research on ways to sleep while on a combination of sleep-aiding substances. If anyone has a good site where I can obtain the herbs at its higest quality, please inform me. Id also like to hear from other members on their own sleeping remedies. And one more thing, Dreams. I have not had a dream in 10 years and I would also like to hear anything if anyone has to say about substances that induce dreamlike states or better yet lucid dreams. I really need a good night sleep, can anyone help me out?

Dont start mixing unless your well informed on that mix.

I had problems falling asleep last year and i found melatonin, its otc in with the the vatamins+suplements. Read up on erowid and you'll see it induces dreams. Ive had my favorive lucid dreams on melatonin, 2 of them being amazing shroom picking trips and one being an action adventure type dream an a villa be and my bro being the heros weilding semi auto 12 guages and m4's.

I never dreamed much before taking it but now i dream allot and havent taken it in about 8 months.

The only downside was i found my feet falling asleep and going numb rather then all tingely more often when siting for long periods. They say if you encounter this you should cut back or stop dosing.

I would take 5-10 mg sometimes 20mg about a half hour before going to bed and id be sound asleep in an hour. If i tried to stay up and watch tv i would feel wiped out like after a long days of hard work within 45 min.

Ive tried dream herb with no avail. and its bitter as fuck.

I hope this helps man!

I had problems sleeping for a while, that is until I started drinking a st. johns wort, hops and valerian herbal tea mix. Within half an hour of drinking the infusion I'm ready for bed. I've also noticed that if I don't smoke marijuana anywhere near bedtime, I will have particularly satisfying and vivid dreams.

Health food stores generally have an in-store naturopath. If you can't find anything that works for you maybe you should consult them for some friendly advice. I know how much of a pain in the ass not sleeping can be.

there's a plant with the answer on it's scientific name:
Papaver _somniferum_!

but there certainly is a lot of other plants that can help you...
of the ones i have tried, i found yopo puts me to sleep and gives vivid dreams.
but i don't know if it would work in combination with sleeping pills, there might be cross tolerance or perhaps other undesired interactions.
do you practice any exercise?

Yeah exercise releases endorphins and if you exercised before you went to bed you might hitch a ride to the land of nod on the afterglow.

I've started using calea recently. I had to cut my plant down a bit at the end of summer so that I could bring it inside, and so I made a few cuttings and dried all the leaves that I had to trim off. It was probably about two months after drying it that I first used it, so it wasn't VERY fresh, but it was dried and stored well. I just munch up a gram, chewing well and swallowing, about half an hour before going to bed. While awake it has some effect, it's hard to describe exactly but I suppose it is similar in some aspects to smoking a small amount of weed. And then during the night I usually have half a dozen or so dreams that I can recall. Some I can recall fully in great detail, some I can recall only fragments of, but there is always at least one that I can remember fully in the morning. Sometimes they're semi-lucid, sometimes fully, but I occaisionally get lucid dreams anyway. I love calea! :nut:

when im far to anxious or active to sleep i find Valerian in combination with an Ayerdedic 'Calming' tea with things like cardamon, liquorice and jasmine taken an hour prior to bed help.

other herbs suggested such as Hypericum, and hops etc are also mild sedatives and could work for you, i haven't tried these myself.

since Calea has been mentioned, i personaly haven't noticed any sleep 'inducing' effects from it though it is also reported to be a mild sedative too.

re: melatonin, a few sublingual drops of melatonin has worked for me in the past around an hour before bed. i havn't used this in quite a while and its prity expensive stuff $50 - 50mL.

Keeping active during the day i.e. excecising
might be a good idea also.

on another note - i find oil burners can be quite usefull, lavendar and sadlewood are two of my fav's.

good luck.
