Sleeping near a Brugmansia/Datura plant will induce intense nightmares?

I read that just the powerful scent of Brugmansia flowers will give you intense nightmares if you sleep under the plant. I don't know if this is true, but if so, would this apply to Datura also? (Datura Inoxia to be exact).
"Tree daturas, Brugmansia species, also known as "floripondios", produce beautiful hanging flowers that smell particularly sweet at night. In Latin America, suspicion has it that if you sleep near to the plant it will induce terrible nightmares, perhaps as alkaloids are contained in the smell emitted at night." http://www.fathom.com/feature/122038/index.html

Your quote says "suspicion has it that if you sleep near to the plant it will induce terrible nightmares". I suspect that if there was any real evidence of this your source would be more definite rather than referring to "suspicion"

these plants DO affect dreaming, and you don't have to ingest them to be effected. just the presence and aroma of the plant is enough for many.

If there was real evidence of this I wouldn't have made this thread. I am looking for people who actually have experience with it. If anyone has grown Brugmansia they might have tried it.

I have many Brugmansia growning in my yard (called Reina de la Noche, or Queen of the night, here in Costa Rica). I have a big tree sitting about 10 feet away from my window and when they are in full bloom I can say with absolute confidence that they fuck you up in your sleep. Even from that far away every time they are in full bloom I get very, very strange dreams that dont make any sense and you are even much more immersed in them, yet your grasp on the whole dream seems to come and go, I have woken up blabbering random nonsense such as "no jenny leave the box, the building is full of grass" (???) just to fall back asleep into the dream not really sure if I ever really did wake up or not, and when I do wake up the memory of the dream which seemed so real a second ago vanishes a lot quicker than usual and you are left with a "what the hell just happened last night?" feeling. The dreams aren't exactly unpleasant, but they can be very intensely strange and confusing. Also when awakening the next morning I feel as if I hadn't slept at all, very warn out and groggy and sort of feel like being under pressure, like being underwater for a long time. Its an interesting experience, I would not like to sleep directly under a blooming tree as even from a distance it deff causes shifts in conciousness even while sleeping and for the next few hours after waking up, sometimes up to 6+ hours after waking I still feel very, very groggy.

I too have a Brugmansia. I saw a small version of this plant and had to have it. Well to make a long story short, I ended up putting my Pink Ecuador brug in the ground to bloom. Boy did it BLOOM. The scent smells like a super sweet smelling baby powder. I sat one day enthralled at the large bloom when I started to notice this hypnotic calming effect setting in. I am not sure if the sedating effects that followed came from the plant itself via the scent or alkaloids that might be present, if any at all, or was coming from an extremely relaxed state of mind and body I couldn't tell.
I did manage to get up and leave and shortly after the effects dissipated.

Man, I need a daturaplant on my bedside!

Ditto. For some reason, despite all the perfectly safe and friendly plants the rest of shroomery spends so much time reading and writing about, I seem drawn to the Bad Idea Anticholinergics

I am not afraid of anything, a good nightmare is rare to come by for me.. it is one of those things you miss..
