AFOAF decided to case some trays with 50/50. A bunch of quarts of whole BR and finch seed was cooked up and innoculated. The time came soon to dump a few of em into some trays. Out of four trays one made it. The others have fallen to green mold. AFOAF checks his shit like every hour (very impatient) to look for any changes, so he seen this mold right off the bat so he dumped everything onto a big peice of wax paper and scooped up the white mycellium being very careful and clean and leaving behind all casing material and a 1/2 layer of substrate. Now hes got back 45-50% of his substrate back and he wants to fruit it. But not with casing. Couldn't you just fruit this white block just like a PF style cake. He's too afraid to go with 50/50 cause that damn mold.

did you sterilize the 50/50? I don't know anything maybe someone will say I'm dumb and tell me you dont have to sterilize 50/50:)

stop checking it so often, could be youre letting in dust and other contams if youre opening the cover. another tip is to clean the walls and pans with isopropyl or shoot some lysol around before you case. i think 50/50 ought to be sterilized since its half peat thats been sitting in a bag for who knows how long. good luck

Cool. Have to try pasturizing next batch. What casing do you use Anno? 50/50 50/50+ or this coir stuff.

I might suggest letting that block of mycelium rest cozy in a nice pan of moist verm. Perhaps bury the block 1/4 to 1/2 way down in the moist verm Sprinkle a bit on the top as well for good measure and let it fruit. This is pretty much like double end casing a cake with verm but I might suggest letting the block sit a little deeper in a pan of verm.

I use the 50/50+ with limestone(calcium carbonate).
Right now I am experimenting with the "new" 30/30/30/5/5 tek ;).
coir
peat(or peat based potting soil)
vermiculite
limestone
oystershells
This casing material has a very nice texture, awaiting first results soon.

Cool. Thanx for the help. Should be able to get it to do somethin now. That 30/30/30/5/5 tek sounds interesting. Will look for your results on the boards.
