casing questions

REcently my pet dog started his casing, he started to notice really whispy whitish growth peaking through. Is this the mycellium, or could it be cob web mold. THe casings still smell pretty earthy so my dog is hoping it is mycellium. The only thing that has doubted him is the whispy growth. Also he did take great strides to sterilize.

Sounds like it's thin mycellium. You're well on your way...

This was taken from the book "The Mushroom Cultivator" by Paul Stamets.
I would advise anyone who attempts serious growing buying this book.
