Mycelium Already Popping Up!?

Well.. yesterday I just finished some casings.. and today. Roughly about 29 hours later.. there is already mycelium on the top.. not much but it's in little patches.. is this normal or way too fast?

i think its normal, just cover the patches that popped up with more subrate

I thought I want the top layer to get covered with mycelium then initiate pinning?

yes, im new at this so im not 100% sure but i believe if you get early mycelium showing then you should cover it so the mycelium has more time to spread through the rest of the casing. And then you will get better yields.

If the mycelium covers 100% of your casing you get "overlay"
which is a dead waterproof layer, you want it to be evenly
specled with mycelium. Or so ive reead, havent tried growing
yet. Yeah, so you want to cover those patches of more aggressive
growth with some casing material to even out the colonization.

I read that some strains will produce overlay unless they are cold-shocked.

Within a week to 2 weeks it will be almost completly covered in mycelium. Then the mycelium will stop growing for a few days.. the mycelium network is establishing itself... becoming stronger and stonger preparing to produce mushrooms. Then pinning will start....


That came from the 50/50 tek write up...
It says to let the top layer cover ...
